My sky router has died on me so no computer meantime which is a disaster so i am using my mobile to post on the forum meantime. I phoned Sky and they advised me a techy would call me in 3 or 4 days!!! Not good enough i need internet access NOW!
I dont need a techy to tell me my Netgear router is f****d. What i do need to know is how i get a FREE replacement router from Sky when they eventually call me back as i hear they are charging £70 to replace them. Any ideas guys and girls.............a desperate motorman.

I know nothing about Sky's policy. If my router or cable box takes a dump, I can exchange them for a new one at any branch office ... or make an appointment and wait for a tech.

Thanks Joe. I am contracted to Sky and cant just buy a router off the shelf as they will not advise me how to make it compatible with their broadband.

There should be some print in the policy paperwork stating the equipment is...'fit for service'...within the specification laid down by the service provider ('Sky UK'), meaning when it is swithched-on, it will provide a service which yours now is not and providing this can be proven on the Day the techy Guy is with you, a replacement unit should be forthcoming. No matter what you tell the techy Guy, he will do some plugging-in and un-plugging of the unit to try and re-boot it (sometimes this does work as the unit has a certain amount of 'Cache Memory' which can become corrupted and needs clearing) try this yourself to be satisfied it has actually died and not just a re-boot needed.

Are you friendly with your Nieghbours, if yes, ask nicely if you can share His/Her internet access by getting their security password (they can then change it later), and getting your laptop to connect to their network, it will get you out of trouble for a while...
Say you have some important Adult pictures to down load, but you have lost your internet access...

With a lot of stuff nowadays the old "unplug from everything for 10 minutes" then plug it all back in again works a treat My Netgear used to play up now and again and so does my Sky TV box. All I do with them is the above. usually works fine.

My mum had a similar problem with her sky TV box, phoned them and said she was going to cancel as she couldn't afford the replacement fee, guess what a new one in 48hrs free, might be worth a try

I can vouch for the cancellation method. It's worked for me twice: Once on a broadband problem and once on sky box problem.
