The NAMC’s “Catalog of all Series Matchbox Models” (second edition) lists both the metallic red models without the grille trim (variations 53-1G and 53-1H). However, since no metallic red models with grille trim are listed, this probably represents a drafting error rather than genuine variations.
Although the AIM “1-75 Series Regular Wheels” catalogue (second printing, 1983) and Houghton do not list any variations not already covered by Nick, they do mention the existence of light and dark grey plastic wheels.
Stannard does not list any models not catalogued by Nick, and U.K. Matchbox did not cover the model.

The metallic green 53a Aston Martin is known in two shades: metallic very light green (almost silver) and metallic light green . For red model exists the assumption that there is a glossy red variation also. I have in my collection three shades of metallic red Aston Martin. Maybe the metallic dark red model was the basis of the presumption of red variation.

We know from an old Fred Bronner catalogue that there was a non-metallic red pre-production version of this model. In addition, Dick (Kwakers) swears blind that he has a non-metallic red example although, sadly, we are still waiting for the photographs!

I think that there are several types of the silver trim:
a) no silver trim
b) HA silver trim to bumper & headlights
c) MS silver trim to bumper & headlights
d) MS silver trim to bumper, grille & headlights
