Hello Mike. You have a Russian made 'POLITOYS' Mercedes-Benz. Several models were in the range using tooling leased from the Italian 'POLITOYS' company. They were made during the mid-70's and are unusual but very not rare. It is worth keeping and try and get the original 'POLITOYS' version to go with it.

Very nice! The Russians didnt have chrome plating always available so many Russian versions of Politoys had white plastic used instead which makes them standout. Compared to the Italian originals its the quality of plastic parts that lets them down but they are charming anyway -this is my favourite item from Mike´s big lot!

I have a few OF THE Russian remake Alfa Romeos but have never seen a box like that. A very good find. Good idea to find an original Italian version to sit next to it!

Nice model. I was going to ask why the base plate is in English but someone has already mentioned that it has Italian origins so I guess the base plates were just sent over to Russia.

Cheers, Steve

No they werent. The tooling has been altered by the Russians removing all Italian wording except Mercedes 230SL - these toys were sold in high end shops to Party members and tourists rather than the general public in the 1970s as well as being exported to other Iron curtain nations. The box was for local people to read and the baseplate was for non Russian speakers!

Nice item, looks like it was made in Kiev. I have a 1/43 Volga which was also made in Kiev. It is finished in the same colour as your Mercedes and has the same wheels. It is rather cruder than the more usual Saratov-made 1/43 Volgas.

I've not seen that model but have quite a few USSR models which might be related. They include Airplanes and military as well. Lots of parts but on the same note, many are quite crude.
