Hello Fox. I am sure you will be better to buy from the Ebay sales site for your Country, as I am sure there are members here who would like to help you, me included, but the postal systems between Countries makes the transaction too complicated. Had I been in your Country, I would not hesitate in sending a few models to you.

Keep us informed with your progress.

Thanks Ghosthunter !
So it seems that it's not to expensive to get one as post fees could represent a large part of model cost.
I'm gonna try to be patient.

Best regards.

I've found a description that speaks only to Matchbox experts.
1.1958 # 44 A ROLLS ROYCE SILVER CLOUD,MW,DC,EXC.

2.1958 # 44 A ROLLS ROYCE SILVER CLOUD,GPW,DR,NM.
I'm proud to have understood almost everyhting... but as I am no Matchbox specialist I would like to know what does mean DC and DR.

Many thanks for your answer.

Hi Fox,

The DC and DR abbreviations refer to the axle types of the models:

DC = Domed/Crimped

DR = Domed/Rounded

The axles are crimped or rounded at one end once the axle and wheels are in place on the assembled model. At the other end, the axles are either domed (more prominent) or flattened (the axles are shaped like a pin before assembly).

Usually "FC" (flat head/crimped) is the earliest issue chronologically, followed by DC, then DR. There are exceptions to this though. The change from FC to DC occurred due to a change in supplier of the pins used for axles (I think!), while the change from DC to DR happened when new tooling for securing the axles was introduced.

Hope that helps!

Cheers,
Gavin

Three types of wheel design (with variations), were fitted to #44a.

1, The metal type, on crimped axles, usually called Bare metal, although in fact the factory had them Grenodised, giving them the dull Grey finish and fitted to the model from 1958 to 1959 when these were replaced by dark Grey plastic wheels.

2, The Grey plastic wheels were fitted from 1959 to 1963 and the first examples were still on crimped axles, then the safety axles with a dome at each end became the standard type. Three distinct shades of Grey wheels can be found, so we are looking at Dark, Medium and Light Grey.

3, The Silver-Grey plastic wheels stayed on the model from 1963 until 1964 when the model was replaced by the Phantom V. Two types of tread have been found on these wheels, the 20 and 24 patterns, refering to the number of ridges around the outside of the tyre to represent the tread pattern.

I will look to my clouds with a new eye.

Shame on me. I got 8 clouds but still not able to determine if the wheels are Metalic or Plastic... :oops:

I'll have to examine closely the ones with crimped axles.
