Just won this whole complete SF-4 set for only 40 clams.
Haven't got it yet, but I took a gamble...I thought it really looked the rare dark bronze color to me.
What say you???

Fingers crossed for you Dave. This is another difficult model to identify sometimes, I know I've been caught out before with light bronze/dark gold, etc :D

its certainly bronze not gold because of the red undertones in the paint. wonder if it has the rare towguide baseplate? Cars packed in early tracksets were the earliest production made in good time for christmas 1969.

Yes, easy to get caught out, but I'd agree, this certainly looks to be bronze in the photograph you shared. The red-ish tinge wouldn't be there if it were gold.

You guys said exactly what was going through my mind and how I rationalized the purchase.

Thanks for the input guys!!! I'll keep you all in the loop.

Oh, and Mick, I'll certainly check for the tow guide. You may have seen my lemon example with that came with a surprise tow guide. (No base pix in the auction!)

I think these are similar to Mathias' picture:

Much thanks Mathias and John.
Such beautiful examples you both have found!
Such a deep, rich color, and the red interior just makes it incredible.

This one has obvious flaws, but should prove to be a step up from the one I already have.
Sure fun finding gems hidden in lots and tiny pix of play sets!

Yes, finding hidden gems is great fun. It's strange with colours, I think the dark Miura's looks great too but I wonder what we'd think if the golds were the difficult ones to find. It's often crossed my mind, because I can think of plenty of models that I prefer in the mass production colours (not this one though :D ), you have to try and ignore the rarity factor and just look at the model for what it is. It's off the point a bit, but maybe an idea for a new topic.

Oh, most certainly a worthy and thoughtful topic.
In fact I have had the same thought pertaining to a couple of topics.

One in fact that just came up in my new YY Lagonda thread - how the maroon fenders (w/lime gold body) looks nicer than the much rarer strawberry colored fenders.
Others seemed to agree.

And of course the lemon Miura is rarer but still preferred over the gold one at least to me.

But the one that really come to my mind is how I prefer the look of the red SF Ferarri to the much pricier Ferarri Superfast in green (for my tastes).
Thanks for chiming in John.
What are some other mass production colors do you prefer over rarer versions?
