59B Base with 55B Body - Factory Error
Hi Nick
This is my first post here .. so bear with me.. came across the VBD website while researching a number of Matchbox Lesney's I have recently acquired, must say the information on the website is first class so a big thank you to all involved. While checking through my recent acqusitions I have come across the No: 59B Ford Fairlane Fire Chief Base with a 55B Ford Fairlane Police Car body. The vehicle is not boxed but in good condition with decals pretty much intact.
You can view the images of this vehicle on the following link:
http://www.store.pwdnet.co.uk/EB2G5_Mat ... ehicle.htm
Does anyone on the forum have any interest in this item? before I move it on elsewhere.
Please let me know.

Welcome MB_Hawkeye, this error often turns up, I have it the other way round, the 59b Fire Chief body and the 55b Police Car base.

Re: 59B Base with 55B Body - Factory Error
I have one of each.
It's difficult to say exactly how rare these are since this error (I am tempted to say variation) doesn't seem to be at all collectible - probably because it cannot be seen with the model standing on its wheels.
I was wondering whether any other baseplate crossovers are known and I can't think of any, even though I would have thought that e.g. 25a/42a would be a good candidate pairing, and I know that 33a/39a works too. So has anyone got any other crossovers and, if not, why does it only occur on this model pair?

Hugh - Big Banger and Pie-eyed Piper exist with bases swapped and these can go for silly money. The windows and engines are interchangeable too. The other SF base swap that springs to mind are the Jeeps #2/#5/#38/II.
The Volkswagen/Volkswagon base variant is another where we have no real sense of relative scarcity. I think there are plenty of us that like this sort of thing and collect it. Perhaps others, like me, are simply cheapskates. Maybe things like this just don't appeal to the big spenders
Also, we rely on online purchasing to find most of our models these days. Usually sellers do not picture the base of the model in listings as they judge it less important, and perhaps want to save money by not having unnecessary photos on their listings. Collectors are less likely to request base photos for models that are ostensibly common...
Cheers,
Gavin

Ah, yes, I hadn't thought of those. (I try to avoid thinking about SF. )Taniwha wrote:Big Banger and Pie-eyed Piper exist with bases swapped and these can go for silly money. The windows and engines are interchangeable too. The other SF base swap that springs to mind are the Jeeps #2/#5/#38/II.
