'Major Pack' M1, Autotanker.

Here is the real 'BP' Autotanker, taken at the Commercial Vehicle Show in Earls Court. On the 'Major Pack' guide page, Nick shows a picture looking at the vehicle from nearer the front and it shows the central front door/hatch (behind the 'BP' panel), open for the operator to get in and out!

There's a diagram here, the image is large but hopefully it allows you to zoom in and still read the text.

Does anyone know if the Autotanker was actually operated? The whole engine arrangement seems to be very Leyland Atlantean based and considering how easily the early rear engine double deckers caught fire it doesn't strike me as an ideal layout for a fuel tanker.....

If you google thompson 1958 auto tanker you will see more pics of the real vehicle,thompsons were based a couple of miles from me at bilston,i remember the chassis been stacked up outside,pretty sure they made mini subframes as well

That is a site I often go into for my regular fix of 'Anderson' and yes, there was a lot of commercially produced toys and models used by the production team on Gerry's shows.
