Could someone ID this Mini please?

Post by Carl001 »

Hi Chaps,

I have this battered Morris Mini Cooper that I would like to try and make presentable but unfortunately I do not know which model/casting it actually is. The plastic windows will be ordered from Dinkyclub.com but there are a few to choose from. Also are the tyres 13mm or 15mm? Lastly what colour would it have been originally? I am sorry to have such basic questions but my only reference is a Ramseys book and the internet!

Thanks in advance for any information I am looking forward to a new learning curve attempting this restoration.

Thanks Motorman, there does seem to be a red patch on the roof....but the model has been painted many times!

Our man Ghosty has identified this model as the Corgi 249 over in Tinman's resto section
GHOSTHUNTER wrote:Because there are some patches of the original black paint, the model appears to be #249 instead, the version with a red roof and yellow 'Wicker' side panels, a model loosely based on the one driven by Peter Sellars. GHOSTHUNTER.

I'll forgive you just this once! :D (Seriously though, you might want to repost that information in the other thread.)

Thanks for the replies, sorry to have caused confusion with the two threads. I have also saved the picture of the mini....it looks like this is the model for sure, the red roof seals it for me. Will the roof need the same undercoat as the rest of the car....black?

Yes it will if you want the red to look as on the original, the black undercoat will tone down the brightness of the red.
Have fun with your resto/custom - fair condition lightly playworn examples can be picked up for around £5 each in the UK which is less than the cost of paint, parts and stickers to restore as a wicker mini!

It will be all black undercoat then 88...I had not thought of using a donor vehicle until a chap mentioned it last night so I have already bid on a few on ebay, at this rate I will have a miniature scrapyard on the go.
