A few newbie questions

Post by Carl001 »

Hekko to All,

I have just joined this site and I am amazed at the knowledge and the depth of detail on here but I do have a few questions please,

Firstly, Where could I buy the plastic windows for a Corgi Morris Mini Cooper? Does anyone supply this? My google searches are not turning up much. Also what wire can be used for Matchbox axles? I have a box (or two) of models that I have collected and I would like to start with some easy ones so any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi Carl, welcome to the site. Yes it's a fantastic place full of information.
There are four or so sites that sell spare parts. In fact I was only looking at the link the other night but I can't remember where it was. Someone will log in and help you.
The wire used for the models axles, well being a kiwi I can help you there. We use number 8 wire. In fact we use that for everything including keeping the sheep and cattle in!! It fixes anything!
On a serious note before you do anything to them I would post photo's of them here as there could be a real rarity amongst them and even chipped up and battered it could be worth something.
Enjoy the site

Cheers Steve

Thanks for the replies!

I will certainly look out for number 8 wire...(never heard of it, thanks Kiwi) and the links Nick are exactly what I am looking for. I never really imagined that the cars that I have are worth anything more than pennies-I started to acquire them because I used to have them as a kid in the late 60s early 70s. My intention was to make the ones that I had owned previously look like new and stick them in a cabinet but I will post pictures in case I destroy a classic.

Thanks for the help it is very much appreciated. :D

I wonder if anyone could ID this model please? I am hoping to buy the glass for it soon and the wheels....are they 15mm on this model? As you can see it has had a hard life!

Hi Carl and welcome to the forum
I believe you have a Corgi model 226 there.
Here is a link with a bit of history on the model

Because there are some patches of the original black paint, the model appears to be #249 instead, the version with a red roof and yellow 'Wicker' side panels, a model loosely based on the one driven by Peter Sellars.

Thank you for this ZBret....I have just asked on the Corgi section about this but you seem to have beaten me to it. I will look now and thank you once again.

Thank you also Ghost...this really is a minefield LOL. I will scrape some paint off before stripping it to see what lies beneath....though I think that wicker panels maybe beyond me just yet!

I went chasing you across to the Corgi thread and thought..."no, I won't put my answer here as well, I am sure Carl001 will be back to his original thread where he first asked the question"...and here we are.

I only know of one gloss black Mini Cooper from Corgi and it is the so called Peter Sellars car and when I looked at your three pictures, I could see some black paint on it and with sections of red also showing on the roof gave me the answer of it being model number 249 instead of the one mentioned by zBret (sorry zBret!), and yes, the 'Wickerwork' side panels are going to be difficult to replicate, not impossible though and I may help you out there with a few suggestions.
