Not sure what we are supposed to be looking at or for as "crane bulge" does not translate.

I think the "bulge" is the protruding piece on the crane jib just behind the cab on the 3 centre models but it is missing on the 2 outer ones

Joe, i think he is referring to a small casting bulge near the base of the crane. Although i might me wrong

I can't see that this "bulge" could possible be serving any useful purpose, and would therefore suggest that it is the result of damaged tooling rather than a deliberate casting variation. (Well spotted though!)

Your 13B crane body still looks like a 13A to me Mike. Are you sure it has the number 13 cast under the cab roof on yours as the 13B should?
I would guess that the bulge you have shown us is an ejector point that was ground off on early examples, but later left as-is for faster production. Is that bulge round on one of these models shown, or just my eyes? The others seem wider and flat to me unlike your second example shown. I had never even noticed this bulge, so now will have to check to make sure I have an example of each type crane with or without it. It is a matter of how detailed your collection becomes. Some of Stannard's variation details are far less notable than this large hump on the crane of this 13A. Thank You Joerimoko for your details on this. kwakers

Hi Mike,
Your model is a 13a. 13b-4 has a longer, flat-topped body and GPW.

I only have one example or 13a and it has the 'bulge'. I have taken some extreme closeups and it seems it isn't so much a bulge as a bent flat protrusion. But I guess that bulge is as good a description as any!:)

If anyone has a 13a in their scrap box, it would be very interesting to see the bulge without paint.
I also have a 13b-1 and it does not have the bulge. Mind you, the crane on the 13b models is a completely different casting anyway.
