Volkswagen 181 Question.

Post by jimgallegos »

I bought a Dinky Volkswagen 181 today at an antique mall. It is blue with blue hubs. It came in a strange box. It is white and blue. It has a VW drawing ion 1 side, 2 children on 2 sides and on the back it has in German, French and English "The car with the highest performance for the lowest cost" Also Volkswagenwerk, AG, Wolfsburg
THe end flaps have a VW logo, VW-Export-Limousine and GOLFBLAU 166 112

That explains why it was in the range for so many years long after all the other windowless seatless models had gone if they were shipping significant orders direct to VW for dealerships. There are still new dealership -toy connections being discovered in countries outside well documented Germany. please share photos!

Hi Jim,

your box belongs to a plastic Wiking 1:40 scale VW Beetle, which was made for the VW Company back in the 50's and early 60's.
The standard box just shows the different side views of the car inside the box, but one of the end flaps has the VW logo and the number 166 112.
Quite likely your box is a special export box.

Can you bring it to the Gathering, please!?

Jim,

I just saw your email with the pictures - it is an early export box type of the Wiking VW Beetle!

Thanks Kay,

I think the previous owner must have mixed the items. Now to locate them and see what else was in the collection. I checked and Vicki does have the correct model for this box. See you this week at the Gathering.
