Label reassignmment from an SF#72 Hovercraft IMHO.

Thanks motorman. Yes the label is usually found on this hovercraft.
But isn't it difficult to swap a label without damaging it?! Or would you say it's one of those horrible REPRO labels?

Hello Sir_Matchbox_96, removing so called 'water-slide decals' (the type you often find in the typical 'AIRFIX' kit), can be undertook with commercially available treatment liquids, but is time consuming and not always successful.

Removing paper based sticky labels used on "Matchbox" models prior to 'Tampo' printing can be done by heating up the label with a hair dryer and gently teasing the label away from the surface in small steps, you must not pull the label in one go, quite often you have to re-place the part of the label you are holding back down onto the surface repeatedly to agitate the adhesive, this often makes the label pull away easier. What you must also try and do is keep the label as flat to the model's surface (I'E' level), to prevent the fold ripples appearing in the ink and destroying the label if you intend to reuse it on another model, as always you should practice on less important models like 'Beaters'.

Another way to remove labels intact is to use a product called "Superlift" this is used for removing postage stamps from a backing paper. It comes with a small brush to apply the liquid, if you cannot get this product, then ordinary lighter fuel will do the same thing, with-out damaging the label.

I never heart of this procedures before...and by the way I would never try them, faking models and fetch a premium.
I won this auction (as you can see it wasn't to expensive, although windscreen and driver are missing).
So when this arrives, is there a possibility to judge wether the label was originally fitted on this formula racing car or it has been removed from the hoovercraft?!
Are there any signals?!

As you all know, sometimes models with wrong labels, wrong decals or other oddities came to light, often called as "Friday afternoon models" or "lunchtime specials".
I think the hoovercraft was introduced in 1972, at this time the formula racing car was available in purple, too, before the colour was changed to yellow.

I will post some pictures when the racing car arrives and would be very happy if you could have a second view on this!
