Is it real?? Can you see what i see?

Post by motorman »

I wonder if anyone from the Forum won this job lot. Fingers crossed that RW #13 is the real deal!!

If it is real it went very cheap!!

Personally speaking i think it looks deliberately posed right in the middle of the job lot on its own, with a huge "Look as me" flag waving next to it but for £122 it could be a worthwhile gamble

There is a base shot further down the listing if you scroll down which shows the rivet but it is shot at an awkward angle so this rivet is unfortunately not that clear.

When really Zoomed-in, there seems to be no signs of a 'BP' label on either side of the rear body sides. Does the rivet look to low against the surrounding base metal?

Ghosty.

I don't know about this one. There's no clear shot of the booms but, from what I can see, they appear to be thin. The front trim looks correct, and the playwear is extremely convincing. On the other hand, does that yellow looks a bit pale (could be the colour balance of the photograph), and is it credible that such a battered example would still retain its hook?

Similar thought here as well. I find it a little curious that the first big shot under the main listing is the wrecker and the base shot does seem strategically placed to show some but not enough of that rivet. Also a bit suprising that there were only seven bidders. Still, I am a bit of a sceptic and by the time you take the value of the other models away from the final bid price, the gamble is quite a bit less than £122.

Your right JB if this wrecker is the real deal the buyer has grabbed a bargain. I think Hugh may be on to something about the yellow colour which does look quite pale, the lack of any labels may be making this yellow more questionable.

I think I remember Antonin picked out some very small casting flaws that were visible from the side on these early wreckers, but I couldn't find the info. (I might be wrong here!).

The bubbling of the green paint on the cab door makes me think that this is not oven baked paint - this is not in the least hidden,it could be a recent repaint intentionally aged, I would not have bid on this lot of junk.Aside from the boom, the injector on the crane box should be indented and the baseplate should be smooth without the change of level previously discussed where the area that includes the rivit hole was made fractionally thicker

We've had a couple of conversations along those lines. There was one regarding a specific reverse-colour 13d which had a casting flaw at the bottom on the cab on the rhs, and then there's the casting flaw which is always found on the front right wing of the tan 46a.

The casting flaw was the unique way to identify P-P-P-Peter´s example which migrated from Oz to his lady friend in USA to ebay for him.
Its not just paint shades + thin boom - genuine reverse wreckers have the smooth baseplate without the casting line just in front of the rear axle and all have the early production 11m tyres with embossed ´´Lesney ´´ ´´England´´ as well as the indented injector ring on the crane box and less than precise silver mask trim on the front -enough unique identifiers with the early issue pinkish background BP decals to make fakes easy to spot with good photos. This looks like bait for optimists to clear out junk!

My thoughts as well Mick. Like i said in the opening post, the wrecker looks posed sitting on its own right the centre of the image on the e bay listing clearly to attract bidders. It looks like the seller knew what he was doing to get as much as he could for the job lot. It is extremely unlikely to be the genuine article...............surely?????
