Victor 'F' Type for £100...

Post by GHOSTHUNTER »

Is this really worth £100 ? rear rivet is maybe too good, with too much yellow paint inside it!

The mint box may be the key here Ghosty, the Metal Wheel 45 is far too common to fetch that money unless it is the first casting dashless variation. How some Lesney base rivets were done with hardly any damage to their paint is quite the mystery, but this model is known for it's poorly done 'loose' base rivets, so this one's rivets may not have been well spun right from the factory. A quick check of a few early castings at hand show many that still have 100% appearing original Lesney paint on them, so that baked paint must have been very tough, but also very durable to take that deformation. kwakers

I've got a quite a few of these and it is suprising how good the paint looks on the rivets. Also, the seller is looking for offers so initial prices are usually inflated.

Thank you "Kwakers" and "Johnboy", I wasn't in the market for one of these, just found it early one morning when I could not get to sleep and decided to do a bit of surfing. Very valid comments about the rivets on models directly from this period and while the picture shows it to be in really good condition, I know I could get an example (with the 'Dash' casting), for a lot less than that £100.
