reverse colour #13

Post by fixer »

I know this is a live auction but it is open to a bin offer
just wondered what thoughts you may have http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221464032812? ... EBIDX%3AIT , to me the front rivet looks too small for the hole

It's a repaint IMHO the rivets are the give away !!

The seller is an ebay novice but i note from his transaction history that he has recently bought from Siosjack, perhaps a custom #13??.

The shade of green paint doesn't look right either ...on the dark side compared to a standard #13

And the labels look super fresh and slightly on the large side??

It stinks!!!! Just my opinion mind!!!

Not great photos but compare the green of the normal wrecker to the reverse colour, different shades. Very white decals too. The front rivet doesn't look like it's doing anything. But Reg, it's only up the road from you, why not pop in on the way home from work

Don't be afraid to state that the labels should be decals Mick, and that the boom is the later thick one, not at all like your original reverse wreckers of 1965. Lots of our newer members have no access to all the important details we discussed on LeFora about these.
If it were one of the remakes done at the factory in 1970, it would have crimped axles rather than riveted, and the body rivets underneath would be proper, not the small diameter tampered with ones we can clearly see. This was Gramp's 'shelf filler', nothing more, nothing less Mr. fixer. Tinman can make you a much better example at a very reasonable price, with the proper looking early thin boom that made this 1965 original Wrecker so unique. kwakers

Hi All spoke to the seller of the Wrecker Truck he told me that they were his grandfathers, if you look on his feedback you can see that he brought it off ebay earlier. Graham had a word with the seller & he threatened him with his lawyers & then he asked Graham what did he know about matchbox. A day later he came back asking what would they be worth, Graham didn't reply. Pete

This same link today showed me another E Bay auction for a very nicely done reproduction with correct early 'modified' thin booms if someone needs a 'Filler'. It just opened, so is cheap and has several days to run.
I can't put myself in Graham's position, but the original Seller's threat probably would stop my reply also. You can only talk with those who will listen to your facts. It sounds like maybe the Seller educated himself a bit too late on the Fake. The auction seems cancelled, so Graham's message got through to him anyway. Maybe just another embarassed collector, or perhaps someone who now finds our scrutiny of 'Fakes' he has to offer to be more than he ever expected to face on E Bay. kwakers
