Here is one of the early production cars used by Rolls-Royce for promotional and press functions. This picture was taken inside one of the dealerships close to when the car was launched. This maroon car is wearing "100 LG" index plates and was used for several coloured promotional pictures and leaflets. Another early car finished in black was also fitted with the same index plates and used for lesser quality promotional material like magazines.
The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow 4 door saloon was officially launched at the London Motor Show in October 1965, but actual deliveries to customers were delayed until mid-66.
This is the car (or pictures of it), seen by both Dinky and Matchbox representatives while researching their new model versions, Matchbox launched their model in March 1967, on catalogue number 24 and retailed it on UK markets at 10p (55 cents in the US), and kept it in full production until 1973, when it was deleted from UK catalogues.
