53c finially getting interesting

Post by ford_a_30 »

I know this model holds a special place in the hearts of some UK members but, I just don't care for this car, it's ugly and a spare tire sharing space with the engine is daffy. However, I have one with a little extra "sparkle" to it. The engine is plated in gold. All the other plastics, paint, metals are fine, it is not from "smoke" or "sunfade" the finish is even despite some glare in the pictures. I am wondering if any other members have such an example?

i think there was another model someone showed that had a goldish chrome engine...my thoughts is a chemical reaction of the chrome plating verses it actually have gold chrome applied

i still have the one i got as a kid...i guess it survived as i didnt play with it much as you said...kinda dull
Please use a web hosting site (like photobucket) to store pictures so you can post them here, using attachments makes it hard to view the pictures when you have to scroll to see them. Seeing comparisons of models is hard to see with attachments too.

Ford designed this car with a normal sized trunk but when they disovered that it was too long to fit in a standard garage or parking bay in the UK they cut the length behind the rear wheels giving this such an odd look...............

Is the engine only plated on one side? If it's both, it might be worth peering through the front wheel arches to see what colour the underside is.

I think this may also have been reported with the 36c Opel Diplomat.

Thank you Mike for confirming this variation. Is the car in your picture yours?
Yes, the gold engine is clearly gold in the wheel wells also.

Even with the gold engine, it's just one of those later 60's models that is (and this is my personal opinion) still boring.
