Home made yesteryears
All these were in with the green colour trial Opel, all wheels have been added outside the factory and some of the other components as well, even standard models have had the correct wheels added.
I think many were rejects as some castings are defects with roof pins missing etc.
The Y12 Thomas was is good as its the reverse letting on a giftware model which I did not have, one which Bob has shown me in the past. J

Re: Home made yesteryears
Hello Jason, interesting models you have there. I am intrigued as to why someone would do this 'Outside' of the factory, for what purpose I wonder!
I have the Y-10 Silver Ghost mint in box, fitted with Y-7 wheels and tyres, but on the very last body casting with the wide brake-levers mounting point. The one in your picture has the narrow mounting point, but they are definatley Y-7 wheels, you can see the little representation of the valve on the inner surface of the rims.
The very last body casting comes from the period just before production of 'Yesteryear' models was suspended, towards the end of 1972, the fitting of wrong components during this time must have been quite common, the general consensus that the 'Yesteryear' range was being deleted, meant it did not really matter, just get the models finished, packed and out of the way.
The decision to finish 'Yesteryears' altogether was in light of the Mattel 'Hot Wheels' onslaught, affecting sales of the '1-75 series' regular wheel models and by stopping the 'Yesteryear' range, they could concentrate their resources into the 'Superfast' conversion programme.
I reckon the Y-10 Silver Ghost you have shown, could also be one of those models, put together without due care and attention and as far as I am concerned, is a full production model and therefore a variation because of those Y-7 wheels and not an OOPS! model.
As for the other models, maybe they are the same, difficult to comment on them as I don't have examples of those.

Re: Home made yesteryears
Hi Ghosty, I was thinking that maybe someone was just taking dicarded models home and putting them together for there children or something.
Thanks for the comments and I think I will keep them all together somewhere, as I do like these odd ones.
Something else I have just realised and I might post over on Micks site is the lack of posts on the Y12 Thomas, I have had a few of these giftware
versions but this is a first for me without the locating posts on the base.Jason

Re: Home made yesteryears
Here are two plated 'Giftware' Y-10 Silver Ghost models, but without the mounting pillars for ashtrays etc.
I believe these were for other types of presentation purposes, so did not require the mounting pillars, similar to those models encased in clear acrylic paper weights.

Re: Home made yesteryears
Jason, I also have a few plated ones without posts etc. I believe they were made as 'factory gifts' or something like that for Odell to give away to visitors. Re the Y14 Maxwell - I also have large and small wheel versions - Large wheel took me ages to find and came from a Lesney employee eventually with a load of other interesting stuff. Only shame to it is the spare tyre is bigger now than the disc it sits on so falls off !!!!
Will have to go through all your pics to check first so don't discount as after factory made up items yet as I doubt not many would take wheel less models home and then put wheels on them.

This one was saved from the bin, very poor condition but unpainted/plated Spyker. Does look quite good on display, I do love bare castings. J

Hi Jason.
Did you know the unpainted spyker has the mudguards fitted the wrong way around.

Hi nick the model will come apart if I force , think the rivets were only forced over to stop it falling apart. Not sure how I missed that, will have a go at swapping round.

Love the bare metal job, note the thin collars round the screw holes, one for Roger over on MOYBOYZ. Some of the axle ends on the others look very suspect to me, and strange how all these unrecorded variants are in one box. May well have been a factory worker making them up at home. Remember the song "One Piece At A time"?
Regarding Mick's comment about "gift" models, I think his is one.

Others like this are known, Y15 Packard & Y16 Mercedes are the usual ones, but A Y8 Stutz is known as well as Y10 & Y15 Rollers.

Re: Home made yesteryears
Yes Bob I think maybe broken bits as well , many had painted areas where pins and lugs should be. Still an interesting lot of bits to sort through.
The Spyker I do not think has ever been assembled properly just another selection of bits, this was from a seperate lot though.J
