47c DAF Container Truck

Post by Diecast »

We have discussed a varianion with a rear bumper (or brace) on the container approx. one year ago. I found another model with the rear brace. At first glance, the two models are identical. But at closer inspection you will find differences:
- the biggest difference is in the kinematics of the container, the container by the first model could be tilted to an angle of almost 90°, by the second one to an angle of about 45°.

As I just looked at my examples anyway, I checked the tilting and found that all of mine tilt to only about 45 degrees. This applies to both RW and SF examples.

The sizes of the holes on the inside of the container seem to correspond directly to the sizes of the tabs on the underside: smaller holes = smaller tabs. At least that is the case on my examples.

By the way, the reason for me looking at my examples was my recent find of a RW example with the "brace" or "bumper" at the rear, which I had been missing before. I should point out that this "brace" or "bumper" is actually mentioned in the Stannard catalogue, for in the description of container base type B it says "the bottom of the rear wall of the container is 1mm thick due to the addition of a ridge". Stannard's "ridge" is actually the "brace" or "bumper"!

This means that the type Stannard omitted is the one in between, i.e. the one with the shorter container base tabs and without the "ridge" (or "brace" or "bumper") at the rear. That one most certainly exists though, as I have had one for many years.

So we have at least three different container casting types on this model, or maybe four if we take Antonin's new discovery into account. (I cannot see any difference in the thickness of the lower braces on my examples.)

Thanks for sharing. Just found the same variations in superfast wheels. Also a few of the regular wheels too.
If wanted I'll make pictures.
