Red SF22c Warning

Post by Idris »

I noticed this appear on Ebay this evening.
I once bought a number of choice models from this person. Although the models were supposed to be in Leicester, close to where I then lived, it was not possible for me to go round, inspect the models and then pay cash, so I insisted that they were sent to me on approval. This was duly done, but all turned out to be (in my opinion) fakes and I returned them. To be fair, the seller did then cancel the sales. However, once bitten, twice shy, and I would advise Forum members to inspect those baseplate rivets very carefully before bidding on this item.
The seller was a member of the old forum and posted a photograph of a wooden cabinet containg upwards of 20 models including a number of rare variations. After a few months, these appeared on Ebay en masse and some of these I bid on. Doubts were expressed on the forum at the time, but no one could come up with any firm evidence that the models were not what they purported to be. Indeed, some might well have been genuine because they sold well and resulted in positive feedback. However, if memory serves, those were all the more common models.
I'm not saying it's fake, I'm not saying it's genuine, all I'm saying is caveat emptor!

Looking through his feedback he has sold a lot of rare models, a lot of them are quite playworn admittedly.

Hugh, can you refresh my memory? I vaguely remember the thread and the cabinet of rarities, is this the seller that had a 28b with gpw for sale? I couldn't see any reference to it on the seller's feedback, but I recall showing some interest in it at the time.

That's the one! I recall there also being a hubbed 53c Ford Zodiac.
I can't get onto the old site from my work pc, but you could try searching for "walkerwalker". I can't remember the member name, but I think it was something with "green" in it.
If anyone can find the thread, perhaps they would be kind enough to post a link.

I think we're in S. Beach territory here. Personally I would not even consider buying anything from this peson, no matter how convincing it looked. The models I was sent (and then returned) were all playworn too.
I should add that, having corresponded by Ebay mail, it was unclear to me whether this is someone genuine who has been caught out by having been supplied with faked rarities by an unscrupulous dealer (it has happened before) or whether they have assembled the models themselves. Either way, I would avoid this seller.

Yes, thanks Hugh. A walkerwalker (ggreen) search does bring up the old thread called Recent GPW Collection which is an interesting re-read, but for some reason I can't post a link and I can't access the links that have been highlighted in that thread (Showing off your collection etc).
