Would you kill a toy for it's parts?

Post by ford_a_30 »

While there is no way I would for example, pull apart a prototype trailer for its window unit, I wouldn't hesitate to swap a canopy from a beat kennel truck onto a nice one.
The question is where to draw the line. I have two 18d's. Both have good tracks but 1 has a broken blade arm and the other has been poorly touched up. Additionally both are playworn. I have a few other vehicles that could sure use the tracks but it would mean the death of the 2 18's. While I'm still trying to figure it out, what would other members here do?

Hello Ford_a_30,
If you have been pondering over this problem for a long time and your patience is running out, I would probably 'Kill a toy'. If however this is a recent problem, I would wait and hope to aquire a better example(s).

I don't know the particular model you mention in your post, but if it is a 'HTF' model, and you are desperate to have a good one in your collection, then maybe it is time to 'Kill a toy' to make a good one, but I would take many pictures of both models so at least you have a record of what did exist!

Having said all that, chances are as soon as you do 'Kill a toy' to make one good one, 'that better example will suddenly turn up', so sorry if this does not really help, but that's my view on this, good luck with your choice.

Ghosty.

Ghosty,
Yeah your right, it didn't help at all. (LOL) the two in question are going to be listed with a bunch of others on Ebay if I don't harvest thier organs first. They are worth less now than the replacement track sets would run me. t's really just a question of morals I suppose. Can I kill so others may live?

There is nothing wrong IMHO with harvesting original parts from one original model to enhance another original model (England bases of course!!!).

So in answer to your question i would happily kill a toy if it had a positive effect on another toy . I have infact killed quite a few toys to get a certain part for the same variation of model. Why not?

What i would object to, would be trying to create new unlisted variation of a certain model using different wheel hubs, wheel widths, canopies, window glass, labels, decals, etc etc etc, Thats when you start to join the ranks of FAKING B******S out there!!! SCUM

YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!!! :x :x :x :x

I completly agree. In addition, you don't have to "kill the toy." There are guys (like myself) who would be very grateful to get the remains after your harvesting (I'll gladly pay the shipping and handling).
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

Yes for me too, to replace missing or broken like-for-like parts.
