Jiffy Bag & Padded Envelope Abusers Hall of Shame.
We've all had it happen, you win an auction or purchase an item from someone and it's ruined or damaged because the seller placed it into a Jiffy Bag or Padded Envelope. We've talked about the subject often, we've shared our heartbreak in photos and posts. Many of us even make it routine to ask that such devices not be used for shipping and it all falls on deaf ears. Even worse, the cost to ship in a sturdy box is exactly the same as using a bag (in the USA, and I suspect other countries as well).
Since some sellers won't listen to our pleas and requests. I'm going to start outting every seller who uses such shipping devices and ask that we no longer buy their items until they get the message!
The first winner of my "Avoid This Seller - They Ship In The Bag-O-Death" award goes to ebay seller: marthac605
The seller shipped a number 19 Lotus racer in a Jiffy Bag. I bought a play worn model just to get the driver. The model arrived with head broken off the driver. Maybe if we quit buying from these sellers they will finally get the message!

We already praise the good sellers in the "VBD trusted sellers" listing.
I do like to idea of naming and shaming the sellers who don't give a shit about the way the package their wares.

Ignorance can be fixed. You can't fix stupid.
More than once I've received a lot (several cars), all dumped together in one box or bag unprotected from each other. Metal on metal.
Good thing they were destined for the paint shop.

People are stupid and many don't realise that what is just a toy to them is a collectors item to us. it would therefore simply not occur to them to treat the models with the care and attantion that we do. However, once we have paid for the items, they are our property, and if they ignore our requests regarding how they should be packed, then that is quite a different matter.
So, if we are going to do this then I think it should be solely on the basis that the seller was asked to pack the models in a certain way (e.g. individually wrapped, stout cardboard box etc.) and then failed to follow instructions.

I had to laugh at this one. My boy collects GI Joe stuff and this week, a month late , his item appeared. A large troop type carrier in plastic ( a foot by 6 inches ) and lo and behold it was in a plain cloth bag ( like a duffle bag ) nothing else just some tape around it. God knows how it made it from the UK to Oz in one piece. He charged my boy 35 quid postage for it and label said 12 so in goes a paypal claim for non arrival !! Bugger sellers like this.

When buying models on Ebay, I always add something along the following lines to my PayPal payment:
"Please ensure that the model is well protected by wrapping it in e.g. bubblewrap and then placing it in a stout cardboard box, wedging it firmly in place using screwed-up newspaper. (Experience has taught me that wrapping a car in two sheets of kitchen paper and then sending it in a padded envelope does not provide sufficient protection in the post.)
Thank you!"
If a box is involved, I ask for it to be flattened and sent sandwiched between two pieces of thick cardboard sellotaped together.
However, in spite of the above, there are still morons out there who see fit to ignore my requests (or should that be instructions?) regarding how my property should be treated!

I always pack items the way I would expect to receive them but one of my pet hates is receiving over the top instructions, I always pack well so it will fit safely into the specific sized boxes that I buy to post these safely and at a reasonable cost. I had one buyer send me an email with 3 pages of how he wanted it packed and if I had done this it would have taken the box size to the next payment level, when I told the seller this he refused to pay the extra so I posted it my way which by the way was a much safer way. He received the item all nicely packed with no damage then left me a neutral feedback WTF, oh well another one added to my ever growing Banned from buying from me list.

So how would you request a seller to pack an item? (Putting it another way, would you object to my instructions?)
