There is some discussion going on on the Regular Wheels thread which makes for interesting discussion. One area which has cropped up is what coding table to use when we discuss Superfast variations. Idris (Hugh) has highlighted that a lot of SF collectors use Charlie Macks coding whilst others use Nicks Coding.

Personaly i use Charles coding and it would be good if we could all agree what one to use.

Nicks Superfast variation code is some what a work in progress and in its infancy (i am sure he wont mind me saying that as it is not a criticism). Charlies code book on the other hand is extensive and covers a multitude of SF variants.

It has also been suggested that all posts in relation to any particular variant should have the variation code right at the start of the subject heading i.e 1a Mercedes Truck. That way the posts are more easily searchable and it should be easier to track down that historic post that you need to read again.

there are variants that are rare in America as in England, and vice versa, so the value of the models with Charlie Mack is seen with caution .. I also trust rather Ramsay Price Guide. Cheers Mathias.

I just wanted to say that my superfast guide will be expanded to cover all uk made models, it's just a matter of time.

Mathias, i have to admit that i dont even look at the values quoted in Charlies books which bear to resemblence no the current auction prices being paid today.

In any case the price of collectable diecast is similar to the share index. One day its high the next day its low, so i give very little thought to the value of my collection.

I do however give great thought to the amount of money i am prepared to pay for certain variants and i have lost out on may possible purchases because i have refused to pay what certain sellers are looking for and also when certain auctions just go mental with silly prices being paid, that just artificialy inflate the value of certain variants for that brief moment in time and then everyone takes a sensible pill and gives thanks god almighty that they didnt follow the big spenders into oblivion!!

Nick i hope you did not take my comments out of context for i am very aware that your code listings have only very recently started to include some detailed information on certain SF models.

I will be the first to say that i very much look forward to seeing your code tables for SF variants being as detailed and informative as the RW code tables you have spent so much time and effort compiling.

I am very aware that this whole excercise is very time intensive and appreciate all the effort you have given to it so far and hope you can continue to be motivated enough to keep up all the hard work.

Great idea Alex!, I know how much you love these models.
so many colours, interiors and tampos, the variation tables would need updating every two days.

I dont use or own any Mack books or codes and wont ever. Nick has created his own database to overcome the limitations or defects of previous systems and to the best of my knowledge Mack has never been used as a source of any information here - all is either from our own & MCCH discoveries applied to either or both Stannard & Falkensteiner inspired bones.

Er, doesn't Christian F. actually use Mack's coding system on his website?!

Nick and Mick - very pleased to hear all the Lesney/England made SF models will be eventually covered on Nick's site, as this aligns exactly to what I collect (1953 - 1982).
