Missing Discussions

Post by Martin Avis »

In sorting out all the old 1-75 forum threads from Lefora I am trying to group them together according to the principle model discussed. With 923 threads 'saved' I thought that we would have discussed pretty much every model but have been quite surprised at how many omissions there are (22).

I am not saying the we haven't discussed some of these at all - simply that none of them appear in the titles of any threads:

1c
1d
8b
8c
8d
10a
12a
13a
14a
15a
15b
16b
17b
20b
21a
25a
28d
50b
55c
58a
60b
62b

Maybe it is time we gave them a bit of extra attention!

I would also like to suggest we start the thread with the number / letter like , 8e , as opposed to red mustang or rare mustang. Makes older threads much easier to find. Some interesting threads were buried/lost in a generic title

Absolutely! Please use the number and lowercase letter only and put it right at the start of the thread title. It has taken me a week to categorise all the old threads because this simple convention wasn't followed on the Lefora forum.

I am pleased to see that most of the threads on this new forum are already following this logical style.

Obviously this only applies if the thread is about a specific model.

This approach should also apply to Micks Matchbox Superfast Chat Room. It can be a nightmare trying to find that particular post you are looking for at times.

It would be good if we could agree on the coding letter convention for SF models. I would like to see Nick's coding used, but i know that there are a significant number of seasoned collectors who prefer Charlie Mack's confusing system (which starts at 'a' again) instead.

Very odd! I know that we discussed 1d (with/without hole in base), 16b (orange with GPW) and 20b (interior/body colour combinations). I can only assume that they must all have been part of other threads.

Lots of things were discussed in the missing variations thread so they may have been there. That one is going to make a pretty huge page in its own right!

Hugh,

I agree that this can be confusing. I have used Charlie Macks codes since the day i started collecting SF. I would suspect that the majority of the SF collectors out there would also use it as opposed to Nicks coding.

That being said, I would like to see us all singing off the same song sheet and therefore i would be happy to conform to any majority decision on what code should be used. My vote would go with Charlies Code table if i had a choice.

Perhaps what is needed is a rigorous approach to this. If we used RW and SF and prefixes throughout, there would be no confusion. It would also, rather neatly, resolve the issue of differentiating between the regular wheel and Superfast versions of those models which were converted since Nick chose to use the same letter suffix for both versions. (Actually, if we adopted this approach, it would also resolve the Nick Jones/Charlie Mack coding problem, since everyone would instantly know that 'SF33a' means the same as 'SF33c' - provided we never venture that far into SF territory, that is!)
