11a Esso Tanker in absurd orange colour

Post by Diecast »

I have metioned the absurd 11a Esso Tanker in orange colour also. It has the same colour as 6a Quarry Truck. I have seen some sunfaded 11a ERF Tanker, but this one is not sunfaded, it has the orange painting!!!

Does it have Esso on the rear or is it plain? Not beyond belief that Lesney could have made an orange run for a company whose house colours were orange!

Hello Antonin, nice comparison photo. I found it strange that the code 9 moved away from red and retained the Esso decal.

It is really very strange. The model has a standard rear red "ESSO" decal. My personal opinion is that one batch of the orange models was created by mistake. That someone made a mistake and put into spray painting lines orange colour instead red one.

That seems very possible, the paint has another blip with the flat red finish also.

It's even more stranger than I thought. I had cleaned the model because it was dirty. When cleaning, I noticed that in some places I can see the red painting, the model is repainted by Lesney!!!!!!!

maybe they made a bad mix of red and it became orange...pretty cool though!
Please use a web hosting site (like photobucket) to store pictures so you can post them here, using attachments makes it hard to view the pictures when you have to scroll to see them. Seeing comparisons of models is hard to see with attachments too.

Kids of the 1960s were often very talented with paint, this could be a home made repaint particularly because of the frilly edges of the Esso decal suggesting it has been removed and refitted

Lesney sent all these through the paint line twice, they obviously added the wrong paint into the mix. Decal edges look quite normal.

I had one just like it.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

I'm curious as to why you call it "absurd?"
