Hi again, all.
As a hopeful new seller, I am asking for advice on how to get placement on eBay to end up at the top of their search results. I know they've changed their algorithm many times recently, and they don't exactly disclose how to end up on the "top" of searches. Does anybody have an insider's or experienced user's take on this?
Thanks,
Alan

Hi Alan.
There is no such thing as top placement on ebay, it' search results are not the same as google.
ebays search results are user defined, so can appear by time, price, distance or condition. ie, newly listed or ending soonest, highest price or lowest price, nearest location, used or new first, then there is search BIN, search auction, search BIN & auction.
Have you seen my 7 golden rules for selling Matchbox toys on ebay, follow these rules and you will not fail.

Re: Getting Visibility on eBay
Thanks, Nick. I have read that. Great advice, and I'll give it a go soon.
I love the point about not profiting from shipping costs. Nothing irritates me more as a buyer than seeing an unreasonably high shipping cost.

Re: Getting Visibility on eBay
Ebay's search results which display the "best match" listings are completely screwed up at the moment, This is due to another ebay "improvement" which went wrong, most bidders don't use ebays 'best match' results anyway and the only sellers directly affected are the big powersellers with thousands of items for sale who would normally appear on the first page such as Graham (Rockertron),
I have said it before and I'll say it again,
EBAY, IF ITS NOT BROKE, DONT FIX IT.

Thanks, misterpop; and yes, Nick, that's kind of what I was getting at regarding eBay's weird placement thing.
I've never set any search parameters, other than "my interests," so whenever I log on there are displayed things that relate to my interests, but with no seeming rhyme or reason to the order. I do, btw, "bite" on some of them, so it's a lucky guy who gets to the first page. Somebody somewhere has to know how their screwed up system works.

Re: Getting Visibility on eBay
P.S. I'm seriously thinking of putting "reverse wrecker" in every one of my listings, and then explaining in the description that I'm looking for one, but selling these other items in the meantime. Dirty pool, right?
