K23 Unusual Mercury Commuter
May just be a cross over model, but its one I have never seen before. Normally the models with blue lights would be white as the left model shows,
or yellow with the red roof rack as shown on the right. Model is in very good condition and the colour is a more deeper yellow.

No traces of any stickers? Looks like a colour trial

Quite right, no traces what so ever. Just was not sure if maybe they had produced a yellow one, checked all my books and cannot find any referenceSMS88 wrote:No traces of any stickers? Looks like a colour trial
so you are probably correct about the colour trial.

More luck than midas touch Alex, never know what you are going to get these days. Many people paint the odd model now just to sell as job lots, motorman wrote:Jason you really do have the Midas touch!
I have to admit I have had some terrible ones lately but this had made up for all of them and some. J

Re: K23 Unusual Mercury Commuter
Glad you showed these models.
I have the team matchbox in white.
The windows on the police mercury, are they always clear as I have one with very blue windows
Cheers Steve

Re: K23 Unusual Mercury Commuter
I recall a regular wheel yellow pre-pro version on Vectis that the team there allowed me to include in my variation guide.
I believe this may be the same body but with a white interior.
Perhaps it was tried with the Super Kings wheels & chassis?

Not my area, but here's a contribution for what it's worth.
This model at first sight appears very similar to Jason's, but the shadowing on the roof shows that it originally carried luggage. Therefore we can conclude that the luggage is secured using at least some of the holes at the front of the roof. It is a similar story here, although the left-hand roof hole appears to be white on the inside. Could this be evidence of Lesney recycling already painted bodies?

No - the brightness of the yellow paint comes from a white undercoat which of course would be the same paint as the top coat for the police issue - these were the years Lesney used 2 stage paint jobs to make toys brighterIdris wrote:Not my area, but here's a contribution for what it's worth.
