Just started a resto, custom project. all was going well, until the a pillar broke off. the other side is also cracked at the top.
I have tried to solder it back together, but its so small and the solder just wont hold. I have another couple of this casting,
but they are to good to pull apart and modify, plus I have already done some modifications, removed cast marks etc

Cheers Scott

In order to solder zamac, you first have to copper plate the metal. Use epoxy to fix the cracked pillar. You can make a new pillar for the missing one using sheet styrene, or cut metal out of another beater. Use epoxy to glue it into place. Use some product like bondo, spot putty or icing to fill and shape the area around the new pillar. Slow and delicate work, but it can be done.

Thanks for the info, I do have the missing piece. any particular brand of epoxy?
I also want to fill the rear bumper where the tow hook goes. will the epoxy work for this as well?

Cheers Scott

For bonding (simple glue jobs) I use any good 5 minute clear epoxy. For jobs where the epoxy needs to double as a filler I use JB Weld (also known as JB Kwik).
