A Sad Day for me.

Post by shockwavediecast »

Sadly I've made the hard decision to sell most of my collection. :(
Its taken 18 years to acquire, and will be missed, but the reality is that I'm trying to save up enough of a deposit for a mortgage/house & I've 1000's of pounds sitting in boxes & on shelves.
I'm keeping a few of my favourites, but I'll be offering approx 5000 models up for sale shortly. They range from RW's to some of last years releases & include pre-pro's, Kingsize/Superkings, MoY's, Convoys, catalogues & Accessories
I've also created a new Ebay Id (mbxforsale) as I don't want to mix things up with the business. And I'll put a few through VBDA too.

Obviously I've a lot of prep to do before the first lot. But I'll let you all know when items are on line

I know how you feel :( . A few years ago I also had to sell my whole collection because I needed money for more "important" things. I sold more than 250 boxed models, to which I have been fond of. But by now I have almost all back together :D You'll see it come back better times!

One of the shocks of this Forum to me is that there is fun in re-collecting after the forced sale of a collection. I had always thought it to be a devastating affair, but some here as Broughton has just stated, have survived very well! You cannot live in a Toy collection, so keep what you like the most and may be irreplaceable, then sell the rest with a smile. Life continues with a different attitude when you have a good place to live. Best of luck and save a couple of factory errors for me....kwakers

If you plan on going back to collecting again, don't bother selling the newer things as they will only get pennies on the dollar (and also rack up ebay & paypal fees pretty quickly).
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

I don't think I'll ever be back collecting the same way. When I was collecting heavily I was doing a different job. But now I'm a toy & antique dealer, my hobby has become a full time job, and part of me doesn't need the collection in the same way.

So far I'm keeping my #9 Escort & #34 RS200 paint trial pre-pro's (my absolute favourite models), Convoy Midnight X-press with Cabover, and the three rare Superking Roadblasters, (cos they took me years to find). But other than that, I can't think of anything else I REALLY want to keep.

Well its begun. First few are online including rare Orange #17 with 1953-78 labels, and a rare #45 English Super GT in plain red. Bit of a random lot, but it was the first box I opened. All 99p start bar one, as min reserve is £50, so I've had to start the bus at my reserve (I'm not letting some of the rare stuff go without getting most of my money back).

This might take a while though. As a new account its restricted to just 30 items per month!!!! At that rate its going to take over 10 years to sell everything!!! Got to get feedback up asap. So please bid away. He's the link to one

I've just realised that as its a new account, Ebay have restricted me to UK only sales. If any of our international members would like to bid, please let me know. Or maybe one of our UK based members could help you out. I think these restrictions will be lifted once I get some feedback.

I would try contacting E Bay to have the U.K. only restrictions lifted. I know it costs a bit more to sell internationally, so that may now be their reasoning to keep you local for now. I am not a Superfast collector, but you may tell them you have a request from a U.S. collector to bid on your sales anyway. If you tell them of your international Forum membership, their rules may not be cast in stone. kwakers
