Moko Road Roller Colour Scheme Query
Moko Road Roller Colour Scheme Query
I have recently acquired a Lesney Moko road roller (casting without either flywheel or driver and, as usual, missing the canopy) in yellow with blue wheels. In spite of several intensive Internet searches, I cannot find a similar example anywhere, not even at my usual first port of call in such matters (here). I therefore suspect it to be at least scarce and perhaps even rare.
Can someone with more expertise in this area please advise further?

Could it be a tan one that's sun faded or affected by chemicals?
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

We can't get Gary to join, although he does read the posts that interests him.

Are you sure it is not a repaint - can you post a photo ( or several). Blue and yellow were not colours used in great amounts ( they would be Dinky colours of the later 50's), if any, after the war. Paint was very hard to get apart from plenty of browns, creams and greens which were in easier supply.
I have never seen a roller in this colour scheme and if not on Dream Toys with Hans & Marco then it is more unlikely to be genuine.

That was my initial reaction, but my inspection did not highlight any obvious issues. (So, for instance, the axle crimps all seem genuine enough and the exles are of normal length.) Now that this enquiry has seemingly drawn a blank, I'll cast a far more citical eye over it and will report back.Moyboy wrote:Are you sure it is not a repaint...
Re: Moko Road Roller Colour Scheme Query
The only blue/yellows I know of in the early toys was the Crawler/Bulldozer/Cement mixer for yellow, and the dark blue of the milk cart. Benbros did their early toy copies in metallic blue/yellow for the crawlers/bulldozers and the only blue model I know of is Gary's Lesney bulldozer in metallic blue, same as the Benbros colour almost. This model is a one off, although one the same but in a different shade (lot darker metallic) went through Vectis a year or two ago.
Models were sent out for painting and I suspect Gary's metallic blue got mixed up with some Benbros stuff and got painted or Lesney trialled the metallic blue used by them but dropped it. Is yours gloss or metallic blue ??

Non-metallic blue.Moyboy wrote:Is yours gloss or metallic blue ??
If all goes well (does it ever?) I should have time to examine it closely on Sunday.
