Well spotted, Mathias! I notice that the right hand one's casting is also less distinct, ie. the light clusters.

Cheers,
Ken

Hi guys, is this more evidence of twin sets of moulds being used for the production of these models, like the SF 1 'Mod Rod' posted elsewhere, it is interesting how many models are being discovered with such casting changes, when in fact they may not be changes at all, just a twin casting of the same subject (I know they are not strictly twin castings, but it is a nice way to describe them at the moment).

I'm back again, just to expand on the above post, it's fairly common knowledge that the injection moulding industry (in particular toy and model companies), will use more than one set of moulds to create a toy or model. This allows more of them to be made at the same time and in the case of Lesney, their miniatures are small enough to be 'doubled up' in the machines anyway.

In the case of the above Concrete Mixer model, what would the modifications achieve, had those light clusters suddenly become worn and the base securing slot, had that suddenly broken away and had to be strengthened???

What do you think?

The side profile on these two models looks slightly different too. I don't know about this model but detail can be enhanced or obscured depending on the paint coverage sometimes.

Yes, paint does have an effect on detail crispness and to me, the model on the right is a lighter shade of red for the main body.

Yes, quite true, John. Also, I agree with Ghosty... the model on the right looks a lighter, 'brighter' red to me. Probably a thicker coat, but I'm surprised that it obscures the detail so much compared to the truck on the left.

Cheers, have a nice one!
