The labels are referred to as wide and narrow but the few models I have show three distinct sizes with the word "Police" varying in font and dimensions. Are there any more?

...and these areas I have highlighted. This is more evidence there were at least two sets of tools to cast this baseplate component or one set had to be re-maid to replace a damaged set and there may be a date difference between the two models you have shown!

Sharp eyes Ghosty! I don't know the timeline of these though, I've got six (police and ambulance) with the same baseplate and one (site engineer) with the other baseplate as shown.

The model with the extra space between the Copyright 'C' and '1975' date seems to be the more common type baseplate, but can not comment any further as I don't know this model, just know of it.
