"Ghosty" adds a Rolls-Royce model to his collection!!!

I have had my collection of 44A Silver Cloud models out of their hiding place to sort a few more examples into the 'Time-Line', as several had been purchased at toy fairs and put away until time allowed some research.

I also tried to tie them in with Nick's code listing because I think I am the last collector here with a lot of these models that has not really contributed anything worthwhile to the forum. I thought it would be a simple task of compairing each model I have with the code details on the list, I have only added Two models that closely match a model on the listing!!!

This clearly is not going to work, so the next best thing for me to do follows in Jason's ("Nearylmint"), footsteps by having a link to somewhere else where his collection of a certain model has been detailed and this seems to be a good idea because a lot of us have collections that we have spent Hours over sorting out the variations etc and tying it to paperwork notes.

Those of us who do have a website for our business or hobby, can easily create a link from this forum to our site, just as Jason has done, I have looked at Jason's detailed listing for the 'King-Size' models in his collection and he can add or take away any models at his leisure, it does not mess-up Nick's code listing and I am sure Jason has managed to pair most of his models to the Nick Code Listing, this gives the forum members Two sources of information and they decide which listing they use to see if they have matching models.

Is this a good idea or will it confuse some of us having to worry about Two reference databases, Nick's code listing and your own, that you fully understand and can find a variation very quickly.

Here are the few models purchased at this Weekends Beaulieu Autojumble. The 43rd scale model at the back on the box is the 'SOLIDO' Phantom III, marketed by 'HACHETTE' as a partwork model presented on the cover of a car magazine. I already had this model in the all-clear blister package, but had not got the boxed version as shown here.

The big 'Chrome' effect Phantom II is one of many variations of a novelty radio. This one is the 'FM' version and because this comes from the 1990's, it does not have an accurate Rolls-Royce grille, the company stepped-in and told the original manufacturer to change it because they had not got a license for using Rolls-Royce trademarks etc.

The medium Blue Phantom VI in the foreground is a Dinky Toy 'Action Kit' version that somebody has built exactly as the instructions state and it has been painted in the supplied Humbrol Blue. This will stay as it is, as an example of how these kits went together with no additional fine detail painting, it even has the index plates (paper stickers), correctly positioned and the headlamp 'Jewels' are all there and quite streight.

The Matchbox #69 in 'Gold' is just a very near mint example for £3 and the #44B next to it is my special purchase that you can read about elsewhere on the forum.

Congratulations Kevin. What colour is the base on the SF#69. I saw a mint gold one with yellow base at Falkirk in a mint box unfortunately the seller wanted £45 for it which seemed steep so i didnt buy it.

Hello Alex, the base colour on that #69 'Drop-Top' is Charcol and it has wide wheels nestling in high arches, nothing bspecial about the model, it was just cheap, so thought I would give it a good Home.

£45 is certainly a lot for a model that is not really that hard to find if it was a common issue, but good money if it was 'HTF' such as a high arch with narrow wheels. I am sure more will come your way far cheaper.

A while ago I brought another example of the Matchbox #44A Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud very cheaply and while it was clearly 'Playworn', it seemed to have rather darker 'GPW' hiding under some sort of horrible Black paint.

I took the valuable advice of my friends here on the forum and had a go at cleaning the wheels and I used some nail Varnish remover. At first dabbing it with a cotton bud, but then turning to a paint brush witch proved much better for applying the liquid. I then wiped the wheels with a clean cloth. After several applications, I can honestly say the results are very good with the results shown below in my Before and After pictures.

The only problem is that I have to now ware nail varnish to use up the removal liquid because I've got so much of it...

Ghosty i am amazed at the result of using nail varnish remover on those plastic wheels. I tried to remove silver paint from a bpw model a while ago using the same method and the plastic wheel started to distort as if it was melting i stopped what i was doing in order not to cause any more damage, where did i go wrong, the nail varnish remover was literally on for a few seconds?

Some nail varnish removers contain acetone which can be quite a strong solvent. I generally use acetone-free products on delicate jobs.

I was a bit concerned myself about this issue, but so far the wheels seem fine, no soft blobs of plastic dripping off the axles...

That theory didn't hold up then I know different plastics react differently to acetone and the strength of the acetone can play a part too, but maybe that's a red herring then?

Oh i noticed that it is lemon fragranced, is that a significant factor?
