This strip is missing from later narrow 'Superfast' versions, because they made a whole new body casting and left that detail off the tooling.

An excellent model, Ghosty, I really must look out for one! The quality of the casting is simply superb.. and a beautiful colour too. I think I can see the 'trim-strip' in your middle picture, or is that just a highlight? Thanks for the info about the versions, you're the Rolls Man!!
Here is an enhanced detail picture of the near-side of the model, there is now a shadow under the actual 'Trim-Strip' which on the real car is a Chrome plated 'Trim-Strip' running along the whole waistline of the car.

It's interesting that you found one of these so readily since other posts on the Forum had given me the impression that the RW body with an SF baseplate was certainly htf and perhaps even rare. Time will tell, but I'm now wondering is this could be another one of those cases where the variation has simply been overlooked and, as a result, is almost unknown. Be that as it may, it's an excellent find - well done!

Hello Brad, glad you found one of those #24c Silver Shadow models with the 'Trim-Strip'. Can we have a picture of it for full identification, as there are four main versions with the 'Detail' and a few 'sub-versions' with mixed wheels.
Three versions have the small rear wheel-arch, and three have the large rear wheel-arch and it would be nice to know which one you have. The example in my last pictures has the small rear wheel-arch and is literally the previous 'Regular wheel' body casting, given a new baseplate for the 'Superfast' wheels. The rear wheel-arch on this model, was enlarged for the new wider wheels that for some reason were not used until 1971, that's why most of the Matchbox Superfast models made through 1970 to 1971, look funny with large wheel-arches but narrow wheels (especially the smaller diameter ones), the BMC Pininfarina being a good example of narrow wheels, in large-arches.
