Some more steamers.

The model on the left was described as
"First preproduction trial run to prove new tooling for all parts, assembly and spraying."
in the auction catalogue for the 2003 sale of Patrick O'Dowd's collection. Patrick was Project Leader for European Research and
Development from 1968.
Model on the right was one of the final trial runs before the tyres were changed to grey. I have to say I thought this was a missed opportunity. The whole livery of the model is wrong, it could have been so much better. The Corgi version was absolutely correct.

These are both listed as production models, (issue 1 & 2) although neither have any inscription on the underside of the roof. The white roll version is extremely rare to the point that I've never seen another one, and was considered a preproduction model in some references.

Had to strip out a couple of cabinets today, so re-jigged the displays to improve the appearance.

Nice display Bob. Still looking for that Maxwell in a bottle and that white Lagonda looks a bit pale so send here to get some sun.

Hi Bob,
Wonderful displays Bob,

A bit more of a focus on yesteryears from me in 2019 after my wife gave me a surprise copy of Collector Guide to Matchbox Models of Yesteryear 1956-1972 by Alexandr Picha and Pavel Lagner for Christmas. The surprise was that she did not know. :D
Not sure that I will ever get to the detail with YY as I do with 1-75, Majors and Kings but it is always nice to have an accurate reference book handy. And a nice book at that.

Love the narrow display cabinet, I do not think these have ever been available in Australia but with the way some big name retailers are setting up business here we may see them in the future.

a superb display Bob.
I don't think other collectors have so many bottles together.
Also the collection of blisterpacks looks superb.
Did you also re range other parts of your room ?

Bert
The tall cabinet came from Lidl, a budget supermarket. They have some strange offers on sometimes and these were 55GBP each. Really good quality & very heavy.
Glad you like the book, it was a lot of work to put together. Alex spent 3 days at my place while we were working on it.

Marcel
Not much else has changed other than all the gift sets are now in the illuminated cabinet where the giftware was previously.

Whereabouts in Oz are you (I,m in Penrith, Sydney). Have you tried IKEA for cabinets as they have some good ones at reasonable prices.

Penrith , know it well as having walked the length of it in search for toys back when the first couple of MICA conventions were held. I am just north of Perth in W.A. Mick and funny you should mention Ikea, a store not far from us. Just bought three full glass Ikea cabinets but not for toys but for my workshop to house some of my handy-work.
I do keep an eye on what they sell as occasionally they do run-out lines which are less in cost than my material cost.
They currently only seem to have cabinets that are minimum 350mm deep but I like what Bob has done with boxes behind the model just one deep.
Years ago I bought some rather nice bus window glass, so still have the idea of framing those and setting them up as 100mm deep cabinets. Seems appropriate to turn some real vehicle windows into cabinet glass.

Point of sale poster for the Heinz promotion.

The seats on these vans can be either very dark green (common) of black (scarce) but it's very difficult to distinguish between the two unless the lighting is very good. This is never the case at toy fairs in my experience!
