I'd say your suspicion that something happened to it is right Dan just look at the corrosion on the front axle
must have been dipped in something bleach ??

Dan my big problem with chrome loss is that i would expect to see a lot of chrome loss to the front grill and bumper due to general play wear. The complete loss of chrome on the base however baffles me???? given that even in heavy play this is a relatively protected area and yet there is no evidence of chrome on the base........it just doesn't make any sense to me, am i missing something????

maybe the model was submerged in bleach?

I like seeing these oddities, the more extreme the better It looks like it's been subjected to something but the paint looks normal from here

this could be the most logical answer...but like i said...no experience with bleaching matchbox...i think my mom made sure our pockets were emptied before washing

Here's an odd pipe truck that I found yesterday at the Brentwood toyfair.
As you can see it has a silver plastic base,
I also said that it looks like it was red and then oversprayed in orange, I was wrong as I can't see any red in daylight.

I can't think of any other model that uses silver plastic components except for the wheels, any suggestions please ?
