It has probably been put in a washing machine with bleach added, Bleach will remove the chrome plate and rust the axles.

must have been dipped in something bleach ??
Nick mentioned bleach removing the chrome on this model
motorman wrote:Dan my big problem with chrome loss is that i would expect to see a lot of chrome loss to the front grill and bumper due to general play wear. The complete loss of chrome on the base however baffles me???? given that even in heavy play this is a relatively protected area and yet there is no evidence of chrome on the base........it just doesn't make any sense to me, am i missing something????
maybe the model was submerged in bleach?

im odd enough to like them too

this could be the most logical answer...but like i said...no experience with bleaching matchbox...i think my mom made sure our pockets were emptied before washing

Here's an odd pipe truck that I found yesterday at the Brentwood toyfair.
As you can see it has a silver plastic base,
I also said that it looks like it was red and then oversprayed in orange, I was wrong as I can't see any red in daylight.

I can't think of any other model that uses silver plastic components except for the wheels, any suggestions please ?

Hello Nick, here are three pictures for you.

The three Grey Based models.

All three of my 37a sf models are very Dark Grey Plastic, but the Regular 37d models come in several shades of Grey Plastic as you can see.
