'Dinky Toy' copies.

Lovely model!
Wish it was the real thing! There is one, I think only one, out there in a collection. These store promos are so rare now, I often wonder how many have left no survivors at all? What news "Lands for bags?". Likewise has a 28/2 ever been found with cast open rear windows? It's possible in theory.

Here's one I've been after for a while. it's Kemlows version of Dinky 688 Morris Commercial Artillery Tractor.








I really love these crude toys, not at all like the superb scale models we get these days.

BTW. The 688's are pretty much start and end variations of a long run, from no windows / driver / metal hubs to windows / no driver / plastic hubs.

Looking at the photographs, I'm not convinced that this is a copy. There seem to be too many differences, and I think it would be better described as another manufacturer's representation of a Quad.

Yes that's true, it's interesting to see what different toy makers made of the same prototype. I'm not sure of the release date of the Kemlow, so I don't know who got there first. I got my original 688 in the early 70's by which time it was still on toyshop shelves despite the fact the originals had all been sold off by the Army by 1960.

Kemlow's "Armoured Quad" (Military Master range no. M12) was released in 1958.

I'm not sure if this is the correct category for this. I bought this set at a local toy show a few years ago and the gentleman that sold it to me keeps asking if I found out anything about it. Finally getting to it--only 2+ years now..... These appear to be Mini Dinky but nowhere on the box does it say Dinky. Just generic "MiniBox"", made in British Hong Kong. Is anyone familiar with these? Are they copies of Mini Dinky models or real Dinky just rebranded?

Hi Mike.

Their Heritage is with the 'MINI DINKY' range. These were made from the same tooling as the Mini Dinky models but marketed long after the demise of the Mini Dinky range. There is an alternative set to the one you show with the 'UNIVERSAL' logo in top left corner, a big Hong Kong Based toy company who in their past have made models for both Corgi and Dinky among many others.

I have this first model and it is impresive and the supplied magazines are good fun, one of them showing the future models to be released.

The baseplates on these new versions show DeAgostini instead of the previous Atlas name and a projected 80 models should be coming to the UK and Italy markets.

There is a series of Six plastic cars from Hong Kong, two of which are copies of 'DINKY TOYS', a Vauxhall Victor 'FC' 101 and a MkIV, Ford Zodiac. They are not exact copies (as if they had been made in the same moulds from Dinky), as they are of slightly different dimensions.

The ones shown here are from the early 1970's, with a 'Logo' on the front corner of the box, showing an 'Aladdin's Lamp', but I do not know of this company or distributor. I have been told these models were originally made by the 'BLUE BOX' company during the time of the originals in the 1960's.

The other Four models being copies of Corgi Toys, have been put in that thread, so see them in there.

Coming in late as usual... I think I have some of these at home.., possibly even a full set of the Corgi and Dinky copies. Give me a day or so to see if I can find them - I'm not aware of any connection to the Blue Box company but may have something noted down about who released them...
