I'm sorry, but I've little use for Harvey's opinions or his home made fakes after that caravan fiasco/disgrace!
Besides, I think you're pushing it Mick and the man is entitled to a his personal opinion of the model.
Yes - probably the most disgraceful case of faking imaginable from a previously trusted deeply knowledgeable source perhaps gone down with Mack´s syndrome , (the urge to make scads of money uncovering variations) !

You would most likely find unspun base rivets on unused components that were taken out the BACK door of the Lesney factory as Idris has warned about. With just the unused cab portion with unspun base rivets, a used window glass, hook, and base would complete any fake 13D wrecker. Longer Lesney axles can be re-used out of another model so that the BPW can be put on the re-painted model . If the axle crimps are carefully done, both base rivets could even be left unspun like your front one. kwakers

Could someone please post a scan of the Harold Colpitts retraction/statement so that we can have a discussion based entirely on hard facts rather than, at least in part, on what are potentially half-remembered truths, hyperbole, playground name-calling and overt intolerance of dissent? I am also still waiting to see a copy of the claimed Lesney Products letter containing details of the authorisation to produce these models.

Sounds like a collector to be taken seriously but he was probably too young to have been at the original Bob Brennan / Joe Stone giveaway Christmas 1969 or new year 1970 (unless kwakers knows him or recognises his name from the early 1970s??) but he did have deep enough pockets to get anything he wanted on the secondary market. The question is did DR Scott D Gillogy buy this from an ex R & D man´s private collection - the amber lamp would be a nice personal touch if somebody at Lesney made it for themselves using spare components from the Joe Stone run and those odd stickers could have been added like the crimped axles to show that this a manufactured collectable not a 1964 original!
That paint test now seems really worth doing if Rooster wants to be 100% confidant.

Harold Colpitt´s collector guides are not hyperbole or half remembered truths, they are set in print and sold in their thousands. The letter was on the old forum thread if i remember correctly
