MOTORMANS FINDS
Re: MOTORMANS FINDS
Here is my next purchase from Davids auction. I was delighted to win this!!
A #21 Foden Cement Truck. This one has bumper slit but this casting does not have the number plate. I consider that this casting without the number plate is preproduction.....your thoughts guys?
Only one more to go from Davids sale....later

Re: MOTORMANS FINDS
And finally a superb pre pro. David showed this #1 Dodge Challenger on the forum a long time ago on the casting show and the minute i saw it i wanted an example myself. When i knew David was selling it at Vectis there was only one home it was coming to....mine!
I have decided not to show the pre pro base which is different to the standard base in light of comments made by Numi lately which i felt where well founded. Anyway i hope you all enjoy these images. Thats all for now!!

Numi regretably i am unable to compare it to my other #21 fodens as they are all in storage however other than the lack of the number plate i have not noticed any other obvious differences.numi wrote:

My thoughts on this one....thinking about the timeline would be that this may be a pre production casting just prior to the introduction of the solid bumper seen on 99.9% of production models. One of the other #21 i have has the bumper slit and the number plate protrution (seen below) that sits in the slit which i have always assumed was the earliest transitional variation of this model, therefore i assume that the variation i have acquired from David sits next in the evolution of this model.
I would love to hear some other thoughts on this.

Re: MOTORMANS FINDS
Alex, I have borrowed one of your pictures for the purpose of showing the model without and with the securing tab.
the image on the left represents your latest purchase, a model with the regular wheels base casting with the slot in the front bumber. When the model was converted to 'Superfast' it had a plate cast over this to close it and the plate was of a suitable size making it look like a small index plate.
My slightly reworked image on the right shows the area as if it were a regular wheel version or the 'Transition' version where you can still see the opening revealing the securing tab. It looks to me as if your model (on the left) does not have the extension (the securing tab), at the front of the base, so the opening in your front bumper appears empty!!
That's what I think so far. Is the tab still there but of a smaller size, caused by a faulty cast of that area?

The tab is smooth with no indication of any smaller tab.It is clearly a new casting of the original regular wheel cast. that's why i feel it is later evolution of the SF variant just prior to the introduction of the solid number plate. I would love for David (Vetrad) to provide his thoughts on this variation as he may know more about it's history.

Hugh could you please copy over my #21 post and the subsequent posts over to the Superfast Casting show which may be a better arena for these discussions. Thanks.

We could just do another version of these last few postings over there and then carry on with any new posts.
