Please use a web hosting site (like photobucket) to store pictures so you can post them here, using attachments makes it hard to view the pictures when you have to scroll to see them. Seeing comparisons of models is hard to see with attachments too.

Some lovely cranes here - thanks, everyone.

I thought we were nearly there, but I've found another unlisted casting variation on the crane jib itself. It's much easier to see than to photograph, but the ring that forms the bearing surface to the body is deeper on the later cranes. Painted rivet on the left, unpainted rivet with tow guide on the right.

Very nice spoted Glenn. I have never noticed this variation. I also love the base plate variation spoted by Bert. It looks like the 30c-variation-list will be long.

Yes, I think so too - probably 15 or more different variations. Do you have my variation 1, with wider wheel arches?

No Glenn, I have perhaps an opposite variation, with shorter wheel arches, on my Pre-Pro model with dull orange jib. It seems that there were some problems with die on the beginning of the 30c production.

Interesting - I've checked again and mine is not shorter but obviously wider. Which do you think came first?

The wide arch model needs to be compared to confirmed first issue models and or any 'Pre-Pro' models we might have here, to see if they have wide arches. A wide arch 'Pre-Pro' could exist but then this detail could have been changed very quickly before any Full Production models appeared, but then an 'Old Stock' casting (a 'Pre-Pro' casting), has been found and put back into production, as has happened already with other Lesney models.

There will most likely be different 'Pre-Pro' castings because of what they were used for...pre-proing of components into finished models to show the new products team at the Weekly meetings.

Hard to say, which was the first. I would say the standart wheel arches were the first one, but there was a problems with the flow of the molten metal into the die (on my Pre-Pro model). The metal did not flow to the end of the wheel arches. The detail of the wheel arches was enlarged in the die, but it was too much (your model). I have found in my spare models another model with thicker wheel arches. It realy seems that they had a lot of headache by Lesney because of the wheel arches.
