The MCCH web site is officially Dead!
Re: The MCCH web site is officially Dead!
A few weeks ago, I was playing around on Facebook, I came across the "new" MCCH. Being a little slow minded, I didn't manage to connect it to the old site. I asked to join thinking it would be cool to browse. I read all the rules before asking to join. No selling seemed to be the main one. I'm fine with that, just wanted to look around. I was granted membership - I almost immediately received a long message basically treating me like a 5 year old child, stating many rules and regulations. It was then that I connected the group with the old site! I sent a polite message back stating that I already agreed with the "rules" before asking to join, but that I didn't appreciate the childish message, after all, I haven't been 5 years old for almost 50 years! I said thanks but no thanks. Mr. Curtis sent a completely idiotic message back, about how I was just the kind of person he didn't want in his group! OK, I agreed with his rules before asking to join, albeit not realizing who was in charge. When I received his ridiculous "welcome to the group" message - I politely said thanks but no thanks. I guess he needs to have the last word. But actually, I got the last word. I replied, again politely, that I wasn't interested in selling in his group, I merely wanted to converse with other collectors, I didn't appreciated being treated as a child, and didn't appreciate his jumping to conclusions about my intentions, etc. And thanked him for letting me know of his idiocy so that I wouldn't waste any more of my time in his group. Then I blocked him. Guess I gave him back a little of his own medicine! Childish? Probably. But it was fun!

It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

I have seen some posts from him but I can only get a restricted view of the page now due to being blocked along with several others soon after the page startedTinman wrote:I had a quick look at the page and didn't see any posts from curtis. It also bothers me (quite a bit) that the admin used Jack Odell's name. What comes across to me is a that a Fake person is running the fake matchbox page. Regardless, the man (mark curtis) has worn out his welcome in the collecting community.shockwavediecast wrote:Mark Curtis has reappeared - seems to be getting quite involved with the Matchbox Fakes Revealed page on Facebook

it's thought that Jack Odell is actually Raj from vintage-toys-a-trip-down-memory-lane, the fb page was set up to expose fakes ....a great idea....but was spending most of it's time attacking BLINGA1 (Danny James) and Paul Carr and rather strangely Graham Hamilton after Raj had some fakes of his own exposed both on line and in hand at Sandown (coincidence it was them that exposed the fakes) also rather strangely any posting about them gets shut down by "Jack Odell" !! why if they were confirmed fakes ??
another of the admin is Angus Young I suspect another assumed identity
any way that is the background to the page as far as I know from personal experience .... I really like the idea behind it as any protection from fraudsters is welcome BUT it needs to be open about who's models can be discussed and if they i.e blinga1 want to discuss defend their stock or accuse others it should be on an even playing field and blocking several people for agreeing with the affore mentioned exposed models seems a bit of a cover up, and I have it on good authority (the seller) that one of the admin is actually bidding on several of the models they say are fakes, mmmm an attempt to keep the price down ....I wonder

Lol Mark Curtis the man who barred me from his site by secretly changing my password so I couldn’t log in and then denies it when other members asked why as I had a good rappor with most on there, lucky enough it was proved by another admin what he had done the sneaky little coward. He also posted loads of thilthy porn pictures in my name to try to make me look bad but again thanks to other admin that also backfired. This is the type of man you are dealing with with Mark C, personally I wouldn’t piss on him if he were on fire, nasty man.
Re: The MCCH web site is officially Dead!
Sounds like a good idea, but it seems to be another quagmire in reality. I totally agree, when exposing fakes, that everything should be out in the open including the actual identity of those doing the exposing. also, I don't think FB is a good place for that kind of thing and a traditional forum (like this) is far better.fixer wrote:I have seen some posts from him but I can only get a restricted view of the page now due to being blocked along with several others soon after the page startedTinman wrote:I had a quick look at the page and didn't see any posts from curtis. Re: The MCCH web site is officially Dead!
What are we doing wrong that the people who wish to discuss such things would rather join a flawed TwitFace site than post here?
Re: The MCCH web site is officially Dead!
They dont know any better
Re: The MCCH web site is officially Dead!
In my view f/b is an informal less serious platform, usually gaining an instant response from others once posted or commented on as a notification will appear when others respond. The downside is it's a throwaway platform with info quickly getting lost, with posters who ask the most lame of questions like "how much is it worth" being the most popular and usually referring to a piece of unidentifiable piece of crushed scrap that happens to have Lesney cast on it.
Sites like ours here tend to attract the more serious type of collector and provide a much more concise and recoverable data base and has a more "club" like feel,
in short Hugh I don't think we are doing anything wrong as such they just appeal to different types of collector/web user,
maybe we could reconsider setting up a f/b page linked to here to try and harvest some of them.
On a foot note the MCF Matchbox Collectors Forum page has about 17000 members but only about 100 regular contributors, including several of our own
