I feel like I've had quite a successful 2017 up to now. I'm not sure if I've been fortunate or simply looking harder.

Although narrowly outside my collecting sphere, this pre-production 51d Citroen S.M. was too nice a find to turn down: -

Somehow the playwear just feels right with a model like this. I like the idea that this was scooped back out of the rejects bin and passed to some employee's lucky kid to show off at school! I have no match for the pink which has been applied direct to the casting without an undercoat. Interior is production orange but the glazing is purple.

Its raw mazak base has no tow slot or slashes and an incomplete date: -

Unfortunately, I don't have a space for this in my display so it'll have to be squirelled away for now.

Very, very nice indeed, and not a pre-production I've seen before.

Superb find John, it looks very similar if not the same to this one on Christians site...

Thanks, Hugh.

I thought the same until Rob showed the photo above. It's a dead ringer for it, purple windows and all!

A good spot, Rob!

I wonder how many of the same colour combos were put together for the management meetings?

I've got a colour trial 62 Rat Rod Dragster in dark red which I've seen a few of over the years.

Cheers, Alex!

Can't have you finding all the good ones can we?

True but unlike you and Jason I have yet to find a prepro in the wild. They just don't turn up in Scotland unfortunately :(

This one is also on Christians site and I think it is owned by Jim Gallegos, is it like this John?

It could be, Rob. Although mine appears to be a shade darker and doesn't have labels. These may have been removed but there isn't any trace of them at all.

It's a similarly early model with square slot 5-spoke wheels at the front and large 5-spoke wheels at the rear and it doesn't have engine braces.

As you can see, it has a normal production base which for me, marks it out as a colour trial rather than pre-production. It feels as though I've seen at least half a dozen of these in playworn condition without labels over the years, although some may have come to market more than once. Mine came from Bob Brennen some years back.
