Rooster,
To me the rear post doesnt look like its a heavy spin, looks more like its been flattened/hammered. Though it is hard to be 100% sure by those photos.
If I was you I would take the advice from Tinman & wouldnt entertain spending any money on it

This orange light example doesnt look like any others we have seen that came from USA and seller offers no convincing provenance. If this had come from London and a factory connected family the unspun front rivit with hammered centre rivit looks like something the R & D workshop could have put together from unused parts for a local friend. However I suspect from looking at those stickers, one of which looks like a transplant, its just a nicely painted custom!

Idris is disagreeing with code 2 legion of Harold Colpitts, Bob Brennan, Nigel ,Harvey and Joe Stone not to mention everybody like member here John Juniorman who has ever owned one of these - my opinion is something more than 50 names down that list, I just research & show respect for those legends of the hobby who have shared their wisdom with us and certainly wouldnt seek to mislead us in any way or bring this forum into disrepute again which has pushed out once regular posters like Harvey and Nigel.

I just wanted to let you guys know I'm not bored and have learned a massive amount of info on this model. The seller is a very well known and reputable dealer. And is on DBD ok list of sellers. I think he purchased believing its a , second ,ff whatever from the 70's. He is 100% convinced it's what he says it is. I think he purchased from vectis in the auction from 2006 for 7700.00 believing it was a 2nd gen. What he believes now with a possible 7700.00 custom fake ...WHO KNOWS?
He was nice enough to send to me for my approval after all the discussion I will be sending it back. When I originally said I would purchase at his price I was unaware of the second later US version ( don't laugh). After the deal was done but no money had changed hands ,I finally understood the story. According to the seller these are just as, if not more valuable then the code 1. I really was looking for a code 1. When he said he had a reverse colored wrecker , not knowing the story I thought I had found the HG. Rather than not do the deal we decided to send it to me for review then decide. Oh my goodness !!!. How coincidental that Ebay had one on at the same time.To be clear I did not know about the ebay model until one of you told me there was another thread . In any case Thank you all for all the input. i have been reading and sending questions back to seller. He says there is a small 2 somewhere on base that proves it is what he says , But why so different than all the other 2nd generation , dome , stickers , revet hammered not spun ,
I think once who ever did rear revet decided would be better to not touch the front one. Im rambling here but where does one get a model with a virgin rivet ?
I'm going to look for the "2" on base and will post if I find it . I'm sorry to stir the pot on what code to call it OR if a fake is a fake. I didn't want to over pay for something I didn't understand or want. I want a code 1 , doesn't mean I won't invest in something else if the value is present BUT I will still be looking for my code 1 . I want a code 1 not a copy . One is not the other . If both are valuable then both are a reasonable investment . Which means there are 2 Holy Grails . does this matchbox collecting ever end
Thanks to all !!!!!!!

Past Vectis auction results are online - who would care to dig in and see if this orange lamp wrecker came from a UK source back in 2006 or if it didnt appear at all???

If you wish to be 100% certain , member tinman here has the results of a paint test on a genuine 1970 crimped example so unless this amber lamp example matches those paint specs its a fake -but if you want to spend the money, who knows, it may pass the paint test and actually be unused components assembled after the 2 or 3 dozen required for Joe Stone + Bob Brennan in USA had been shipped. Former regular poster here Nigel has an additional example which turned up in London playworn in the 1970s so perhaps based upon that unspun front rivit , its worth spending money on a paint test to see if it matches the known test already done on a genuine one!

I don't think the wrecker can be or should be classed as a Code2.

I'm sorry, but I've little use for Harvey's opinions or his home made fakes after that caravan fiasco/disgrace!
Besides, I think you're pushing it Mick and the man is entitled to a his personal opinion of the model.

I don't know if this is the one but found this and it seems to match the example being discussed here including the amber roof light
sold in 2008 not 2006 I don't know how to access vectis records properly maybe some one could use this as a start
