I was revisiting the internal doorstep details and comparing Jason's and Antonin's photographs with my models. I also have a dismantled base to inspect which enabled me to determine that the high doorstep version represents the addition of an additional, small, vertical plate extending above and to the side of the boss which makes the first part of caravan floor level with the bottom of the doorframe. Having determined this, it was then obvious that this vertical plate is what is missing from Jason's low doorstep version.
Imagine my surprise therefore, when I discovered that one of my metallic green 23c Caravans has the low doorstep baseplate!
I'll try to get some photographs to explain all of this a bit better, but the chief camera operator is currently revising for his GCSEs and may therefore be unavailable for the next little while. In the meantime, does anyone else have a low doorstep metallic green 23c?

I've just found another!
This time it's a silver model I'd put to one side as a very badly sunfaded Nick Jones code 3 (i.e. metallic mauve with type 1 door and type 1 tow hitch). Perhaps it is a sunfaded code 3 but, with that base, perhaps it's something else! (I must have a better look at it this weekend.)
Would members therefore please check not only their code 2s but also their code 3s for this variation.

Very interesting Hugh, I must check my models.

I just want to make a clarification statement. The members are talking about Nick Jones' Variation Catalog Codes which are similar to, but not the same as Stannard Catalog variation codes.
Further, these Codes are Not to be confused with the code 1,2 or 3 designation that is often used on newer (non-vintage) models (up to and including Mattel models) which determine Original (1), Altered after leaving factory with factory consent (2) and Altered after leaving the factory without consent (3).

Joe, IIRC, you once went on record as saying that you had had a silver 23c in your collection. If so, can you recall which particular combination of towing hitch and door hinge it was?

Yes, but I do not recall the particulars of the variation. The model was purchased by collector who is a member here on the VBD, so it's possible they might join the discussion.

Any chance you could send them a PM in order to point them in this direction?

If I could only remember who bought it. Making it worse, I discarded the bulk of those transaction records just a short time ago.

Difference in threshold casting as promised. These are both Nick Jones Code 2 examples, i.e. metallic green with type 1 towing eye and, as you can see, now that I've prised the first-type base model apart, it is clear that all that was altered was the height of the back part of the cast step.
