Nice little factory error SF#45 BMW 3.0csl with no hole on roof for the dome light. The hubs i am sure originaly had silver foiling. It may not be in the best condition but it is a very unusual error and sits nicely on display.

You'll be pleased to hear that it's not an error piece, it's a pre-production version (I assume it's a tampo test) of the German-issue BMW police car. (I have a mint example obtained via the London Model Club in the 1980s.)

That's very interesting Hugh, It was sold as an error piece however i did consider the possibility of it being a pre pro, and i noted that there are few examples on Christians site albiet none described as pre production so i wasn't sure, another valued member of the forum i spoke with thought it more likely to be an error piece.

I am delighted however with your suggestion that it is a known prepro variation of the #45 and i am very happy to have this little piece of Matchbox history safe in my collection.

What an unusual find Alex and I am sure many of us would have come to the same conclusion when viewing the model in isolation, well done, I'm not a BMW Person, but I reckon if I come across one of those, I could live with it... :D

Oh man! That's a great one.
I really like that car! Otherwise I wish that Lesney had spent more time in making the casting, because it doesn't look absolutely correct.
But let's stick to your prepro example: It looks very dark green on my screen. I know there were lot's of 'shades' in tampo printing (caused by thickness of the paint?!), good to see on the #56 Mercedes 450 'Polizei' as well.
What about a comparison shot with your production run 'Polizei' BMW's motorman? ;)

Great find!

Sorry Linus, most of my collection is now in storage so i wont be able to do the comparison shot any time soon. I would agree that the green tampo appears to be a darker shade the other 'Polizei' models i have in storage but i couldn't say for definate.

Nice find MM,congrats! :D

I believe these to be errors or negative variations. If however these Bmw's were preproduction as claimed then shouldnt they appear to have decals &/or labels or part thereof instead of tampo print?

I look for years for an example and 2 show up in the space of a few weeks. I have added another SF#6 Mercedes 350SL wide 5 spoke wheels and htf clear glass.

Got this one in a job lot of beaters for £6.99 I thought it looked in good condition in the listing images and i was right,Incredibly this one is totally mint!!! :D

The latest one is the slightly darker shade model.
