Very interesting Mike, my silver wheel Rolls was also an overpainted model. Looks like we both discolored our windows a bit during the cleaning process.

When cleaning with nitro thinner.
Unfortunately touches the window.

That is why the wheels cleaned with nail polish remover.

I use automotive brake fluid. It will remove the over paint from the wheels or windows and it will not harm the plastic unless you leave it soaking for too long.
I would recommend anyone trying brake fluid experiment on a few repainted beaters before trying it on a rarity.

I've tried Nicks tip on a few with good results but remember to rinse and dry properly

I take with my model, in the bathtub.

I must try the brake fluid method, is it the modern synthetic type and how long do you leave the models in, approx?

I just use Halford dot4 cheapest available when I cleaned my #3 Bedford tipper bed I just soaked it for about 15 minutes then used cotton buds and a wooden cocktail stick in the more tighter areas then applied more fluid to stubborn areas took about an hour all in

Thanks Reg, I will give it a go. The casting on the reverse wrecker is a bit more complicated so I'll allow a good couple of hours

Don't leave anything with gpw or spw in brake fluid too long! The wheels swell up and split
