Hi all just got back from the NEC another waste of time, spent the total of £14 had a chat with Hugh & Steve, sorry I missed you Nick see you some other time. A lot of superfast about but nothing of any interest, the boxes seem to be getting worst, did spot the tan moggy at £950 Its the same one that's been on ebay for ages its very chipped & a couple of really big chips, I don't think I would want it at any price. Looking forward to Sandown on Saturday Pete.

I agree. I came back completely empty-handed (a first for me) and I'm thinking of just not bothering any more. (I got up at 4:30 a.m. and then had to drive for 2 1/2 hours in the dark through freezing fog to get there. If there's nothing interesting at the end of the ride then it's simply not worth the effort.)
On the plus side, I did meet up with Pete, Steve, and our glorious leader, Nick.

Toy Shows are essentially unpredictable. If a Vendor should close a deal on just a 24 car Bronner Carrying case full of near-mint models, he can make that 2 1/2 hour trip very worthwhile for a sharp earlybird collector who is first to view them. By returning as an active regular wheel collector at our local Albany N.Y. Toy Show seven years ago, I have now influenced many of our local Sellers to give me a shot at any models they have bought over the last six months for re-sale. There are also many 'regulars' now showing up to compete with me as buyers, but I know vendors are now bringing Lesneys from their dusty Cellars back to sell at this local show. We have a Spring Toy Show in March, and then one in November, just like the Spring and Fall Carlisle Car Shows I attend with some toys mixed in with acres of rusty car part. Ask for regular wheel castings and they may just bring them out of those dusty basements for you!
Getting together with collector friends such as your Nigel Cooper, Kay from Germany, Bob from New Jersey, and anyone who can stand talking about tiny casting details is priceless. In most cases, the toys I end up finding at any show are just an excuse for my having a few Great 'collecting' Days to look forward to every year anyway. ;) kwakers

Hi all the trouble with some of our toy fairs is Harry Potter will let anybody stall out now for instant two stalls selling electric cigs one stall selling china, one selling dvds somebody selling glue, I see the Benie babies are back on the scene there is so much stuff that is brand new which spoil the toy fairs now. Sandown used to be nothing after 1970 but that is altering now, at both fairs there are more empty tables than full people just branch out to make it look full Pete

I disagree with Sandown, indeed there are also some yougher toys but 1970 is 45 years ago and there are collectors now lookiing for toys yougher then that.
There were always a lot of nice things to sell there and for me from the Netherlands it is a full 9 hours by nighcoach via france and back the next evening.
Still worth it and also to meet up with friends.

hi, i did dave the cases table for him at the nec today, it was dead, no buzz at all, a few dealers i spoke to just shook their heads, one said he was two thirds down on sales and he had a good mix and fair prices, another said it was two bad ones in a row for him, and i noticed dealers i use to trade with there were missing,

i agree parts of it is starting to look like a sunday market, in my eyes the show is a shadow of its former self ,a shame
