Technically it probably is, but may not be enough of a difference to signify a different variation. There are other visible differences to find.

No its not, must be a trick. Two more visiual differences, one easy to see, one harder to see.

I can see casting differences in the headlights. The example on the left side has the later headlights on which the three lines going radially from the centre to the edge are missing. (The two latest gold examples in my own collection with the "Y-6 & Y-7" baseplates also have those.)

Furthermore I see a diagonal line in the grille insert of the left example which is not present on the right one (and on none of the ones in my own collection - not sure if this is considered significant or not).

Hi Christian, yes the headlamps casting on the left model is a late type, the line on the grille is not recorded by me as a variation (that's a first!!), and I think picture pixelation is helping to exagerate this, leaving one last visible difference, but this is the harder of the Two but apparent once its pointed out.

Axles material.
Headlights casting.
Tyres shoulder profile.
Axle "riveted" the opposite way round.
There will be more, no doubt, and the tyre one's a bit of a shot in the dark.

So, we are left with One item on one of the Two models in my picture that is waiting to be identified. You've found the easy ones now find the hard one... :D

You're a naughty boy Ghosty, teasing us with these fiendish puzzles. I don't know much about these models, is it a hidden difference? The red paint looks slightly different to me as does the colour of the black seats. Is the right model sitting higher? There's also what appears to be very minor differences, circled, but that may be a trick of the photo. The wheel mounting looks slightly different, (perhaps the angle of the shot) and the apex of the engine cover appears lower on the right model. This is probably a lot of rubbish, bit I did try :)

I want to play the devil's advocate for a second. Was it in Matchbox intention to offer two different models doing this ?

Ok. I'm leaving... shamy and confused I am.
