You will not be able to replace the whole glazing moulding without disturbing the baseplate rivet and once you do this the model becomes worthless to a collector as it will be deemed as being 'Tampered With'. You could just replace the front screen by carefuly trying to carry on breaking out the damaged remains and sourcing a replacement from another 'Beater' model and carefuly placing the newer window in place and secure with 'Pritt Stick' paper glue. If you have restoration experience this job is well within your means.

I'd like to see some pictures of the blue Cortina and the Volkswagen 1600TL, too.

Somewhere i have another VW in purple with the 'Superfast' wheels,but exactly where is a mystery, ill probably come across it during a tidy out sometime!'As i said,they need a good clean,so i should imagine some warm soapy water will do the trick.

Hi

new to diecast cars

wifes not well and i am stuck indoors a lot so looking for something to keep me busy
and decided I would get a few old bashed cars and repaint them for the grandkids to play with

bought a joblot off ebay and picked out a mgtd 19a lesney one from the box
but when I had a look its not got the red seat or silver grille like most other ones

it has been well played with but thought i would just check up on it before doing anything to it

any info greatly appreciated

First of all, welcome to VBD, Chris! There are plenty of restorers here, so I'm sure that you will not only find all the information and support you need, but also an appreciative audience for the finished articles.
As regards your 19a, you are correct - it is an odd one. If either the seat paint or the silver trim were missing, I would write it off as a negative variation (i.e. a production error which has resulted in the finished model missing something). Could you please post a photograph of the spare wheel from underneath the model, since this will enable us to determine whether it is an early or a later casting.
Was there anything else even slightly out of the ordinary in the job lot, and where in the country did it ship from?

£600 plus for the blue cab get trailer is both beyond my pocket and beyond my ability to explain to the wife

mine too! The DAF that sold for £600+ was this lovely prepro with some obvious casting differences from the production model, particularly around the rear support.

The one I missed was a playworn one of these, complete with blue ramp - it went for under £30. I so wish I'd bid more, but I was leading on £5 until the last seconds. Perhaps someone here got it?

Was it this one? I got it for £26. The photo is lousy because I have only just got around to listing/catalogue-ing my collection so the photo is from the eBay seller.

Yes. I need to find it -it's somewhere in a box in the garage. Then I'll do some photos in the kingsize area.

bought a few lots so dont really know where it came from
and not sure if theres anything else different in there but will try to check them if I think its different

also found this where it mentions three variations the cream/silver/red, the plain cream and white/silver/red
but its just about all i could find

Thanks for providing the photos. I recently picked up a Superfast 25D myself. The VW 1600TL (which we in the States call simply a "Fastback") is another of my favorite models. I haven't bought one yet, as they can get pricey with the large amount of VW collectors out there.
