I found this a very interesting thread especially if you read between the lines,first, like its been pointed out its a 1984 stand being sold has a 1970,s ,i would say this indicated that the seller doesn,t know much about lesney history ,why ?,well apart from being wrong i would say a seventies replica would sell better .It could be has i suspect further variations will be available but again why this 5 week wait,there is only supposed to be a 100 examples,to make these 100 on a production line would take around 10 minutes if that, so are these being made one at a time,in china then shipped has required?
The replies to this thread indicate a lot of collectors are not pleased by this replica been made,which i find odd,not that collectors don,t like it but this is the market where this product is aimed at.
My conclusion is its a shame,if this was clearly marked has a replica,marketed with various replica headers and spares made available to patch up old examples and mass produced at a lot lower price then this would have been welcomed by collectors who having spent a lot of money on their models want some thing nice to display them in efficently,but its being sold has a limited edition at an inflated price ,they could have sold thousands and then done a real limited edition.

Some good points MOKOSEX, the example we are commenting on here, is probably being marketed the wrong way. Maybe it should be marketed as an accessory to a collection and made cheaper, instead of something to cherish on it's own and not used for the purpose of displayiing models!

I have a rollermatic version somewhere that needs a cellophane pane and i think the top,so perhaps i was just hopeing that in the future spares would be available lol

In my latest post here I posted a link to the other forum where a collector bought this Replica and was pleased with it.
He also wrote that the club is considering another version which is the 70ties version.

Correct me if I am wrong but the club would only have to change the artwork of the paper part and the more expensive red plastic actual tower is the same I think ?

Wanted to let you know I ended up buying one of these replica display stands for my collection. For anyone that is at least a bit knowledgeable about the displays they will be easy to tell the reproductions from the originals. The colors are close but a bit off the mark. The plastic itself is quite different in appearance and texture, you can easily tell that it is a modern plastic and is considerably heavier than the original displays. I will post some pictures of an original and the replica this weekend. For the unsuspecting collector these will be an easy sell if you have never had anything to compare it with.

Just to let people know that the Matchbox Club intend on making another replica of a Matchbox shop display. This time it is the 1970's wall mounted display. They intend to make the recesses slightly larger than the original so you can either display the model or the box.

comments on the mathboxforum from a member who bought and received the replica stand:

it shouldn't be too hard to distinguish between the new one and the original.

I have two originals. One from approx. 1976 and the other from approx. 1980. There are sufficient differences to be able to distinguish the old from new (the body of the stand at least). The biggest difference is that the new ones can be pulled apart and flat packed, whereas the originals are stuck together. The white formers do have a slightly different shape to help position the red side extrusions, whereas the old ones are held together with glue. The lids are also made of a much different thicker material.

These are the differences from the earlier stands, however I can't comment about the later stands which were only ever used in North America.

The front screens though are more than likely identical to the originals, so I don't know how to pick between originals and the repros.

I can though recommend the lids as being suitable replacemnets for the original units. These typically are very frail and brittle. The new lids fit the old units perfectly and do improve the look. If you have an old stand with a broken lid, I suggest you get in contact with the Matchbox Club. I suspect you could also buy the front screens if yours have yellowed too much, are beyond repair or missing.
